I just ran across this sad news when John´s birthday appeared on Facebook. I worked with John for many years, and my younger son interned with him one summer during his college years. John heard my son was moving out of the dorm to a house, and gave my son some furniture for the house. I will always cherish his friendship and his kindness.

Cleaning out a storage room today, 12/23/23, I came across a couple of items from my long-ago association with Dr. Carman, 1992-3. One was just a note: "L'Hotel, in Sorbonne district - Dr Carman stays there." The other was the little red car he gave out that held a host of office supplies - scissors, paper clips, tape measure, a couple of little pens, more. I was a clinical research associate and Dr Carman was the principal investigator at one of my sites on my first study. Danielle was working there, and I also got to meet Harry several times. Finding those two old items made me wonder what was up with Dr Carman, so I Googled him - and there was an obituary notice.

I enjoyed interacting with Dr Carman so much that when another CRA at work, who had Dr Carman's site for another study, asked if he could be assigned to Dr Carman's site for my study, saying it would be more economical, I came up with a wild (and obviously untrue) tale of why I should be allowed to keep working at Dr Carman's site. The next time I was at Dr Carman's offices, I repeated to him the tall tale and asked if he would back me up on it. He agreed, but with a twist on the tale I never saw coming -it was hilarious and I still laugh to think of it. His quick wit, high intelligence, and devotion to his patients make him a stand-out in a long line of sites and PIs. Because he helped bring new medications to the market and help people at risk, his death is a loss to the world, and sadness for all. And yet when I think of him, I can't help but smile.

I had the pleasure of working with John and his father, Harry, with some of their insurance needs over the years. Both were true gentlemen and respectful of your time and recommendations. They were the best examples of honest, straightforward men.

The first time I met John was on a trip. His group was recruiting me to their practice. He was driving a Fiat that was wired in such a way that when he had the wipers on the retracting headlights alternated opening and closing. We had a great laugh. I admired John and wish him eternal rest. Condolences to Cary and all the family.

I just heard today Sept 30th of John's passing....I was driving home to San Diego listening to Notre Dame football. The Irish pulled it out late and won. I thought of John T that moment because we both loved Notre Dame and when we met we would talk some Irish football. I know he is smiling down on the Irish right now.
