Charles Thorn Obituary
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Charles (Skipper) (Zorba) V. Thorn Jr. aged 69 of Palmyra NJ.
His spirit departed us on September 4, 2024, under the caring hands of Samaritan Hospice Center of Mount Holly.
Born September 2, 1955, in Philadelphia Pennsylvania to the late Marie (nee Carey) and Charles V Thorn Sr. He was the oldest of 6 children and loved by his siblings: Cheryl, William (predeceased), Barbara & husband Mike, Janine & husband Robert, Maria & husband John. He was a devoted and loving husband and is survived by his wife, Lily Mae (nee Gentry) who has been with him for 20 years. He is survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends.
Zorba grew up in Palmyra and played football (#54, #64) for Palmyra High School. He graduated in 1973, then joined the US Navy serving on the USS Mount Whitney from 1974-1978. During that time he became a member of the Church of Scientology.
Charles held and excelled at many positions over the years and was most proud of attaining his Bachelor of Science in Information Technology from the University of Phoenix and working for Oracle as their software tester until his retirement in 2021.
He loved to gather with friends and listen to jazz or watch his two favorite sports: basketball & football. He lovingly handed out nick names to those who knew him. His love of life, good times and laughter were contagious. He was truly interested in whomever he was speaking with, you knew you were the most important person in the room at that moment. He spread joy, lifted spirits, worked on truly understanding a personal issue, and offered kind advice or a different perspective. Zorba is a unique, deeply loved, and loving individual.
He will be sorely missed.
Charles will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held October 25, 2024, 12pm to 4:00 pm at the Palmyra Harbour Clubhouse. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.weberfuneralhomeinc.com.
