Mr. Herbie Duncan, 70, passed away on February 19, 2024, at his residence in West Point. Mr. Herbert Holmes "Herbie" Duncan, Jr. was born on December 16, 1953, in Webster County, to the late Herbert Holmes, Sr. and Ruby Faye Shaw Duncan. He was a graduate of Eupora High School and Mississippi State University. As a superfan of Mississippi State, he bled maroon and white. He loved taking trips with his wife and spending time with his family and friends. Some of his favorite past times were fishing, hunting, playing poker, and golfing. As a huge Jimmy Buffett fan, he was a "parrot head" through and through. He was an Elder at First Christian Church in West Point. He was well known and well loved for making stew at the West Point Country Club. After working 28 years, he retired form Royal Trucking. Herbie was well loved for his kindness, devotion to Jesus Christ, and his infectious laugh that could be heard throughout the entire house. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, James "Boo" Franks. Visitation will be Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 11:00-1:00 P.M. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 P.M. from Calvert Funeral Home Chapel with Eric Ross officiating and assisted by Alissa Loden, Jaide Jones, and Brittney Houk. Burial will follow in Wren Cemetery in Wren. Calvert Funeral Home of West Point is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements. Survivors include his wife, Janice Duncan of West Point: two daughters, Karen Pounders and Kim Jones, both of West Point: four grandchildren, Alissa Loden (Austin), Brittney Houk (Justin), and Colton Moffett all of Amory, and Jaide Jones (Dalton) of West Point: eight great-grandchildren, Addyson Houk, Branion Loden, Brylynne Houk, Jayden Alexander, Amelia Loden, Vadie Ann Brown, Griffey Holmes Loden, and Layla Pearl Loden: one sister, Glenda Deal (Hoyt) of Chattanooga, Tennessee, one brother, Jesse Duncan (Cathy) of Columbus: one sister-in-law, Bonnie Sue Jenkins of Wren, and two brothers-in-law, Robert Clyde Buchanan (Mary Lee) of Wren, and Mark Buchanan (Bonnie) of Athens. Pallbearers will be Justin Houk, Austin Loden, Dalton Beard, Matt Stone, Terry Chrismond, Monty Yates, Mark Randle, and Branion Loden. Honorary Pallbearers will be his many friends at First Christian Church and his poker buddies. Memorials may be made to Wren Cemetery Care Fund, C/O Mr. James Sanders.
