Frances Leta Obituary

It is with deep sadness that we announce the death of our mother, Frances Jane Leta, 78 of East Dorset, Vermont on August 25, 2025 at home with her family by her side.

Frances Jane was born in Manhattan, New York on January 30, 1947. She was the daughter of Frank Garrett Shattuck II and Frances Kennedy Shattuck.

She graduated from The School of the Holy Child in Suffern, New York and continued her studies at Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York with an art history major. Her pursuit of knowledge through education continued her entire life.

During her time at The School of the Holy Child, she developed a clear and intelligent understanding of her Catholic faith. With this knowledge and love of her faith, she took her place in the world.

Frances Jane had an unfailing devotion to her family. She was a loving mother to four girls and twelve grandchildren. She was gifted the art of Irish storytelling full of charm, wit, and a little bit of magic. Her humble spirit was exemplified through acts of love.

Frances is survived by her children, Genevieve Zirk and husband Walter, Sabrina Dunne and husband Seth, Scarlett Crespi and husband Anthony, and Bridgid Lopez and husband Mathew; twelve grandchildren; her brothers, Frank Shattuck and Cornelius Shattuck; and her sisters, Meg Shattuck, Laura Chila, and Susan Ide. She was predeceased by her sister, Mary Shattuck. Visitation at the funeral home will be held Wednesday, September 3, 2025, at 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Brewster & Shea Funeral Home, 34 Park Pl., Manchester, VT 05255. Funeral Mass will be held at Christ Our Savior on Thursday, September 4, 2025, at 11:00 am 398 Bonnet St., Manchester, VT 05255. Interment will be private.
