Martha Reeves Obituary

Martha Wood Reeves, 94, born December 25, 1930, in Guntown, Mississippi, passed away May 11th peacefully surrounded by loved ones. She was the daughter of Belmont Heron Wood and Autry Gurley Wood.

Martha is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 56 years, James Horace Reeves; her parents; her sister, Donna Wood Murphy; and her brother, James Heron Wood. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn Reeves Hall (Abbott); her son, James Windham Reeves (Kathy): her grandchildren, Jason Reeves (Jason Clark), Emily Hall Hubert (Mark), Jonathan Reeves (Hannah), Brittany Hall Osborne (Ben), and Jordan Reeves (Cassandra); as well as twelve great-grandchildren who brought her immense joy.

A trailblazer in her family, Martha earned both a bachelor's degree from Mississippi State College for Women and a master's degree in Home Economics Education from Virginia Tech.

As the devoted wife of an Air Force officer, she lived in Japan, England, Germany, Virginia, and Texas. Her career included teaching home economics at Texas State University and serving as a cooperative extension agent in Fairfax County, Virginia. Later in life, Martha became a travel agent and found joy traveling with her husband. She invested deeply in the lives of her children and grandchildren, hosting annual beach trips and offering constant support.

A graveside service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on June 2 at Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Marietta First Baptist Church Grateful Legacy Building Fund or the American Red Cross.

Thinking of all the family as you say goodbye to Martha. Enjoyed our telephone friendship for many years. We saw each other a few times when she was in Mississippi. All the good memories of happy times together will be comforting.
