Luther McMurray Obituary

Luther Lee "Luke" McMurray Luther Lee "Luke" McMurray passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at the age of 86. Luke was born in Maryville in 1938 and grew up with 9 brothers and sisters. At the age of 14 he started working with his uncle Harrison at his shoe repair business on Wildwood Road and he never left for 55 years. Luke eventually came to own the business and expanded over the years into sporting goods and trophies. It became one stop shopping for little league coaches for their teams.

Luke married a wonderful woman named Sally Lewis and they had 2 beautiful children together. He lost Sally too early but was blessed to find love again with his 2nd wife Evelyn who he was married to for 34 years until she passed in 2016. She brought 4 children with her to the marriage creating their very own Brady Bunch.

Evelyn worked alongside him at Harrison's for many years until the business closed. He was a proud supporter of youth athletics in Blount County and sponsored many teams over the years. Luke loved dirt track racing and drag racing and pursued both with his brothers Don & Edward when they were young. He loved to fish and went every Wednesday with his brother Lynn for many years. He was a skilled knife maker and woodworker.

Luke had a dry, sarcastic wit that many of his grandkids inherited from him (much to their parent's dismay). He lived a life filled with lots of laughs and love from his big, wonderful family and countless friends.

Mr. McMurray was preceded in death by his parents Bart and Hazel McMurray; his first wife Sally and 2nd wife Evelyn; brother Lynn McMurray; sisters Frances McLean and Gladys Harbison and daughter Becky Jenkins Willis.

Left to mourn his passing is a big, beautiful, loving family which includes: son and daughter-in-Law Jackie and Sharon McMurray, daughters and sons-in-Law Kathy and David Dunn, Susan and Lynn Effler, Lisa and Jerry Wilburn and Tina and Larry Alexander; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren (and one on the way) and 2 great-great grandchildren. Brother and sister-in-law Don & Ruth McMurray, sister Fern Sutton, brother & sister-in-law Edward & Betty McMurray, sister Patsy Toney, sister and brother-in-law Joyce & Donnie Sutton and brother & sister-in-law James & Vicky McMurray. As well as an ABUNDANCE of nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends Friday, October 11, 2024 at McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home from 5pm-7pm with funeral service by Pastor David "Preacher David" Long following at 7pm. A graveside service will be held at Dotson Memorial Baptist Church Cemetery on Saturday, October 12, 2024 at 11am.

McCammon-Ammons-Click Funeral Home is located at 220 W Broadway Ave, Maryville, TN 37801. Dotson Memorial Baptist Church is located at 814 Dotson Memorial Rd, Maryville, TN 37801

The family would like to thank the wonderful nurses who took such good care of Luke in the CCU at BMH. They were all wonderful but he did have a favorite, Tawny. Thank you is not enough but it is all we have.
