Leonard Gunderson Obituary

Leonard "John" Gunderson of Bull Shoals, Arkansas, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2025, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, at the age of 97.

He was born on Dec. 31, 1927, in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Leonard and Della Anderson Gunderson.

John was a proud U.S. Army veteran who served his country during World War II. Following his service, he remained deeply dedicated to his fellow veterans and community through his longtime involvement with the Hoevel-Barnett VFW Post 1341 in Bull Shoals, Ark., where he formed lasting friendships and continued his commitment to service.

He and his beloved wife, Frances Gunderson, shared 76 wonderful years together-years filled with love, laughter and countless cherished memories. For the past 40 years, John called Bull Shoals home, where he enjoyed the simple pleasures of life and the company of friends and neighbors who became family.

John was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather. He will be remembered for his kind heart, gentle spirit and the legacy of love and service he leaves behind.

He is survived by his wife, Frances Gunderson, of Bull Shoals, Ark.; sons Steven and Doan; as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who will forever hold him in their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Della Gunderson.

A private family service will be held at the family home.
