Flora Haasbeek Obituary

Flora Isabelle Haasbeek, 86, of April Sound in Montgomery, passed peacefully in The Woodlands surrounded by her children on Sunday the 15th, 2024. She was born on March 5th, 1938, to Jobe and (Marian) Jean Llewellyn in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada.

Isabelle married Frank Haasbeek on June 22nd, 1957, in Winnipeg, and they had four children, Michelle, Gillian, John and Nicole. Shortly after getting married, Isabelle and Frank moved to Paris, kicking off a life of travel and adventure. They lived in Paris, France (where their first daughter, Michelle, was born); Bournemouth, England (where daughter Gillian was born); Johannesburg, South Africa (where son John was born); Toronto, Canada (where daughter Nicole was born); Sydney, Australia; the Commonwealth of Jersey, Channel Islands; London, England; Houston, Texas; Atlanta, Georgia; and finally settled in the wonderful community of April Sound outside Montgomery, Texas.

A star athlete, Isabelle was an ice-skater and star volley ball player in her younger years and an avid tennis player and golfer in later years, scoring two holes-in-one on the April Sound golf course, and several trophies in tennis. She was an excellent bridge player, continuing to play up until recently. Throughout her life she enjoyed African safaris, world cruises, RV trips, family vacations and ultimately found her greatest pleasure on and around the water of Lake Conroe.

Isabelle was preceded in death by her husband Frank, grandson Evan and siblings Marian, Davine, June, Bryce and Gerry, and is survived by her brother Bill, her four children, seven grandchildren (Lauren, John Ryan, Stephen, Amelia, Camille, Stacey and Grace) and eleven great grandchildren (Liliana, Penelope, Addison, Caia, Bradley, Gionni, Liana, Oliver, Callum, Maxine and Marcelo).

Services will be held at the April Sound Church on Saturday, January 11th, 2025, at 10:30am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the National Kidney Foundation.
