Nathan Shelton Obituary

Nathan Paul Shelton passed away at the age of 39 on May 10, 2023 at home. He was born on October 14, 1983 in Aurora, CO. He was an amazing Dad, who leaves behind two children, Carter and Kendell, who love him more than words can express. He was their "Daddy Bear." Though he left this world far too soon, he left this world a better place. He was a loving son, father, brother, uncle, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend to many. He is survived by his parents Wayne Shelton and Sandra Mentikov Shelton, his brother Nicholas (Jennifer) Shelton, Hannah and little Nick. Grandmothers, Georgia Mentikov, Miles City, MT and Lorraine Shelton, Julesburg, CO. His aunts and uncles, Jeanie Mentikov (James Guyer), Billings, MT. Susanne Galbraith and Merry DeAnda (Armando) of Miles City, MT. Beverly Buckstead (Steve) Thornton, CO, Richard Shelton (Darlene Crater) Yulee, FL, Lori Hensley (Curtis) Julesburg, CO, Mike Mentikov, Signal Mountain, TN, Mark Mentikov (Juliet Lucas) Naples, Italy, and Paul Mentikov, Hilton Head, SC. His cousins, Danielle and Christopher Guyer, Lindsay and Derick Frost, Holly and Christine Mentikov, Matt Guido, Michael Mentikov, Jeff Shelton (Janet), Clover (Matt) Frederick, Curtis James Hensley (Emily), Greg Hensley (Makenzie). He is preceded in death by his grandfathers, Sergey Mentikov, Miles City, MT and Robert Shelton, Julesburg, CO. Nathan was baptized at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church, Boulder, CO on October 30, 1983 and was confirmed on May 24, 1998 also at Mt. Hope. Nathan grew up in Broomfield, attending Birch Elementary, Broomfield Heights Middle School, and graduating from Broomfield High School in 2002. He went on to attend the University of Hawaii studying Travel Industry Management for 3 years and Colorado State University studying Resort & Restaurant Management. In 2010 he changed course and enrolled in the Electrical Apprenticeship of Local Union 68 International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. He completed his apprenticeship with honors, receiving the Jack W. Sparr Award for "Most Outstanding Apprentice." "Nate Dog," as he was known on the job, was still working as an IBEW electrician at the time of his death. Nate loved fishing with his children and bird hunting with his son, Carter. He was a member of the Louisville Rod & Gun Club. A big sports fan, Nate would attend Rockies games with his children and Bronco games with his brother Nick. Nate was a fantastic father. He will be missed by the many lives he touched. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 2 at 1pm at Mt. Hope Lutheran Church, 1345 S. Broadway, Boulder, CO. The family asks that in lieu of flowers a contribution be made to Carter and Kendell's trust fund, making checks out to Nicholas Shelton.
