Shirley Hiner Obituary

Shirley L. (Styers) Hiner, 89, of Taneytown, MD died on Tuesday, December 31, 2024 in Hanover, PA. Born March 31, 1935 in Union Bridge, Maryland, she was the daughter of the late David and Bertie (Black) Styers. She was the devoted wife of the late Marlin Harold "Jake" Hiner, Sr., to whom she was married for more than 61 years. Shirley was a proud and dedicated homemaker, wife, and mother, ensuring her family's happiness for many years. She enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, caring for her flower garden, and playing board games. Additionally, she enjoyed her hobbies of needlework, completing word searches, and most of all, playing card games. Survived by her sons, Marlin "Jay" Hiner, Jr. and wife Barbara of Taneytown, Mark Hiner and wife Sharon of Westminster, Jeff Hiner and wife Lori of Taneytown, and Gregory Hiner, also of Taneytown; sister, Sally Ensor and husband Jack of New Windsor; 7 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by brothers William Erb, Jr, Wiley Styers, John Styers, and Gene Styers. A time of visitation will be held at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, 136 E. Baltimore Street, Taneytown, MD, on Wednesday, January 8, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 to 8:00 PM. A funeral service with Pastor Darrell Davis officiating will be held on Thursday, January 9th at 11:00 AM at Myers-Durboraw Funeral Home, Taneytown, MD. Interment to follow at Pleasant Valley Cemetery, Westminster, Maryland. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Shirley's memory to SpiriTrust Lutheran, 1050 Pennsylvania Ave. York, PA 17404.
