Susan Iris Carrel (nee Silverman), 83, of Buffalo, New York, passed away peacefully on September 22, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on September 11, 1942, in Buffalo, NY, to the late Ann and Alfred Silverman.

Sue was the beloved and devoted wife of Alan Carrel, with whom she shared over 61 years of love and marriage. Together they built a beautiful life centered on family, joy, and love.

After graduating from Buffalo State College, Sue began her highly successful teaching career where her kindness and dedication touched many lives. She was recognized for her excellence in teaching as a nominee for the distinguished New York State Teacher of the Year Award. Sue was also actively involved in the community through volunteer work and by being a longtime religious school teacher at Temple Beth Zion. Family togetherness was at the center of Sue's life, and upon retirement she embraced her favorite role of all, being a grandmother. She spent countless hours with her family, cherishing every moment with her husband, children, and grandchildren. They all loved her endlessly and will miss her greatly.

Sue was the cherished mother of Andrea (Jim) Czerwinski, Michael (Renee) Carrel, and Steven (Meredith) Carrel. She was the loving grandmother of Ryan and Leah Czerwinski; Lily, Charlotte, RJ, Wagner, and Anna Carrel. Sue was the devoted sister of Bette (late David) Davidson and the late Irwin Cheskin. She is also remembered by many loving nieces, nephews, other family members and friends. The family also wishes to thank Mary Smith for the compassionate care and comfort she provided to Sue over the past four years.

Her funeral will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 25, 2025 at Temple Beth Zion, 805 Delaware Avenue, Buffalo, NY 14209. View live stream at tbz.org. Shiva will be held from 4:00 PM – 8:00 PM on September 25, 2025 and from 2:00 PM – 5:00 PM on September 26, 2025 at the home of Alan Carrel, 227 Red Oak Drive, Williamsville, NY 14221.
