Sharlisa Ann Woodell
Sept. 7, 1955 - June 13, 2024
QUEENSBURY, NY - Sharlisa Ann Woodell, 68, of Queensbury, NY passed away Thursday morning, June 13, 2024, at Glens Falls Hospital with her life partner, Rory Birrell, at her side.
Sharlisa was born September 7, 1955, in Glens Falls, NY to Albert Woodell and Pauline Woodell Clairmont. Sharlisa had a heart of gold and was loved by everyone who knew her. She was born ten years to the day, after her sister Joan, which created an unbreakable bond between the two.
Sharlisa was employed with the horse racing circuit, living in the dorms at Belmont for ten years. She groomed, exercised, fed, and traveled with many of the best horses. She primarily moved between Belmont, Pimlico Race course, Churchill Downs, and Saratoga Raceway, occasionally going to venues in Florida or where ever needed. She suffered a debilitating injury to her back from an incident with a horse forcing her into a long period of recovery and changing employment opportunities as she moved forward in life. As a result of this injury, she suffered with back issues and pain until her passing. Later she went on to work in the home health care industry for ARC in the Glens Falls area. Her final years were spent enjoying time spent at the home she shared with Rory and caring for her cousin's (Rosemary Coon) grandchildren. She drew a lot of satisfaction from supporting Leslie Coon and both loving and mentoring her children Austin, Penny, and Chase
She is survived by her love, Rory, his brother Shaun Birrell, Queensbury, NY and his daughter and special niece Stephanie (Victor) Lane, Watertown, NY, two daughters; Heather Carroll (Justin) Hartford, NY, Corinna Graham (Brandon) Crossville, TN, Siblings; Darlene Vaughn (Dallas) Klamath Falls, Oregon, Shelby Woodell, Harriman, TN, Randall Woodell (Sheila) Harriman, TN, Dorothea Robinson, Fort Ann, NY, Calen Woodell (Donna Mingle) Harriman, TN, Lea Ritchie, Fort Ann, NY, and Brother-In-Law; Richard Wilson, Little Elm, TX, Grandchildren; Dustin Carroll, Emily Hammond, Jensen Carroll, Brady Davis, Riley Graham, Peyton Graham, and Brandon Graham, Great Grandchildren; Cohen West, Emmett West, Jahmiere Hammond, Kyson Hammond, Aziyah Hammond, Ka'Mari Hammond. Sharlisa is also survived by many cousins, nieces and nephews scattered across the country.
She was preceded in death by her mother; Pauline Woodell Clairmont, father; Albert Woodell, and sister; Joan Carol Wilson.
Sharlisa and Rory first met in May of 1998 and have been devoted partners for the last twenty-six years. Sharlisa's wishes were that she would be cremated, and her ashes would go "home" with Rory and remain in his care. Eventually their ashes will rest together, side by side.
Visitation will be held at The Methodist Church, W Broadway, Salem, NY beginning at noon Wednesday, June 19, with the memorial service immediately following at 1:00 PM. A reception will follow the services at the home of Rosemary Coon, 5 Circular Drive, Hudson Falls, NY.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial donation can be made by going to donate.cancer.org or enhance the beauty of your own landscape by planting a tree or perennial bush in Sharlisa's memory.
Her family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude for the excellent care offered by the staff and medical professionals at Glens Falls Hospital and to Rory Birrell for his vigilance, companionship, love and care for our sister during this most challenging time. Thank You.
