Thomas Millard Obituary

10am Saturday, October 21, 2023, a memorial mass will be held at Saint Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 124 N Spring Ave, La Grange, IL 60525. Afterwards, we will be heading to Queen of Heaven Mausoleum, 1400 S Wolf Rd, Hillside, IL 60162 where Tom has already been laid to rest.

Thomas Joseph Millard of Seminole & Tampa, FL passed away on June 21, 2023 a few weeks after his 85th birthday, 5th anniversary and 15th year of partnership to his loving husband John Zapetis.

Born on May 31, 1938 to parents Frank & Rose (Robinson) Millard of Chicago, IL. Tom graduated from Fenwick High School in 1956. He earned his BS in Math with Education minor from Loyola University in 1960 and was a member of Teke Tau Kappa Epislon fraternity house. He earned the nickname "Dolly" for his uncanny skill of being the resident matchmaker. His first job was at Marshall Fields. After college, he became a math teacher for De La Salle Institute for 36 years from 1961-1997. Loved by students and faculty alike, Tom became Math Chair for 21 years (1969-1990). While teaching, he earned his Masters Degree in Mathematics.

Preceded in death by mother Rose, father Frank, step mother Frances & younger brother Robert.

Tom is survived by John Zapetis, Gail Millard, Sean & Cassandra Millard, Bobby Tate Millard, Scott Millard & Jessica Marvel, Richard & June Heinle, Julie Adams, Jeff & Janice Baker, James & Chris Zapetis, Joseph & Lisa Zapetis, and many nieces & nephews.

Tom is survived by Chicago friends: Frank Mustari, Jim Brophy, Michael Kutza, Larry & Mary Pat Wenshutonis, Jack Delaney & Scott Stillman, Darr Gapshis and Ken Galvin. He is also survived by the many friends of Chicago theatre, the Christian Brothers at De La Salle and the 36 years of students whom he served.

Mr Millard had one of the quickest minds I have ever witnessed. De la Salle was blessed to have him for so long.

I remember Tom from his days at DeLaSalle Institute where he was a colleague. Tom was known for his wildly fun parties. May he continue to rest in peace!
