Janet Rodden Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Janet Joann Rodden (nee Scaperdine), 89, of Burlington, NC, on December 1, 2024 at Duke University Hospital, Durham, NC. Janet was a former resident of Downers Grove for 26 years and was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church during that time.
Janet was preceded in death by her husband, John. They were married 59 years and 11-1/2 months. Janet was also proceeded in death by her parents and her two sisters. Janet is survived by two adult children, one brother and two sisters-in-law, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Janet was a full-time homemaker. Janet devoted her life to her husband and children. She always had time for her husband and children. Prior to marriage, Janet worked in the Chicago advertising bureau of U.S. News & World Report Magazine and then at the Chicago City Bank and Trust Company as secretary to the board of directors.
She loved genealogy, cooking home-style comfort foods and painting pecan shell figurines. She was a wonderful mother who provided strength, wisdom, gentleness, warmth and endless support to her children. With her kindness, love and patience, she touched the lives of many who knew her.
Janet was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Burlington, NC. She was active in community and religious organizations while living in Downers Grove and then Burlington, NC. When living in Downers Grove, she was an active volunteer in Catholic religious education for intellectually disabled children.
Funeral service will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, Raleigh, NC. Private interment Clarendon Hills Cemetery.
