Thomas J. Caffrey Sr., 85, of Plains Twp., passed away Thursday evening, Dec. 7, 2023, in Wilkes-Barre General Hospital after suffering a heart seizure at home.
Born March 24, 1938, in Plains Twp., he was the son of the late Bernard L. and Catherine A. Padden Caffrey.
Tom was a graduate of Sacred Heart High School, Plains Twp., Class of 1955 and was employed as a laundry aide at Valley Crest Nursing Home until his retirement.
He was a member of Ss. Peter & Paul Church, Plains Twp., and a former member of the Sons of the American Legion, Post 558, Plains Twp.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Thomas J. Caffrey Jr.; and his brother, James Caffrey.
Surviving are his wife of 28 years, the former Carol Krapcha, Plains Twp.; daughters, Gina Caffrey and Lisa Caffrey; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; stepson, Donald Linker and his wife, Cory; three step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren; and his K-9 buddy, Luke.
In accordance with Tom's final wishes, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Ss. Peter & Paul Church, 13 Hudson Road, Plains Twp. with the Rev. John C. Lambert, pastor, officiating. Those attending the Mass should go directly to church. A livestream of the Funeral Mass will be on the parish's Facebook page. Interment will be held in Sacred Heart Cemetery, Plains Twp. There will be no calling hours.
