I remember Joe Firment as Mr. Firment, and of course, his lovely wife was Mrs. Firment. He was a barrel chested "uncle" to every kid around, and she was a "surrogate mom" to every kid that wandered through the yard, mending scrapes and cuts and feeding us all. They lived right behind us in the development. Their home seemed to be always buzzing with happy activity, particularly when the big apple tree in their yard was attacked by us kids who insisted Mrs. Firment, and our mothers/grandmothers bake them all into apple pies. Joe was a jovial Patriarch, always happy to help and treated every kid in the neighborhood like his own. I was good friends with their son, Joey, and remember that tragedy. I recall one day afterward, I was in junior college I think, and I needed an inexpensive car. I asked Mr. Firment to sell me a small car, and he refused. He put his hands on my shoulders and told me he won´t do that (with his reasons); but anything else he´d be happy to help with. At the time, my immaturity didn´t realize he was trying to protect me from my own short-sightedness. Now I know it was a gift. Thank you, Mr. Firment. Thank you, Mr. and Mrs. Firment. You shared your home and your family and welcomed us as your own. Thank you. Steve Sciortino

We are so sorry to learn of Joe's passing. We got to know him during our many years working with him through GMAC. We had the utmost respect for him, his business ethics and integrity. But also enjoyed his quick wit and fun demeanor. His strong character was definitely passed on to his wonderful sons who followed in his footsteps running the business. Our thoughts and prayers are with Marianne and his beautiful family.
With heartfelt sympathy,

I'm sorry to hear of Joe's passing. He was a kind, fair and generous man. When I was a somewhat struggling KofC insurance salesman in 1983, he said, "I'm going to buy a policy from you to help you out." Condolences to the gracious Marianne and the family.

I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the Firment Family. I had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Joe Firment buying my first newer vehicle back in 1988. He introduced himself to me, welcomed me to the dealership, took a puff on his cigar and said, "This is my son Jim, he'll take care of you. If you have a problem, you come see me." The rest is history. Had the opportunity to meet the other boys int he business and I have been a customer ever since. Sure, the dealership may have changed names recently; however, some of the great people are still there. A true gentleman and an honest businessman that instilled the right way to run a business and live life. May God grant him eternal peace and may the perpetual light shine upon this gentle soul. God Bless.

My memories of Uncle Joe are all fond ones--he was a great man and a great Uncle. I will always cherish his kind smile, supportive nature and warm, albeit prickly-bearded, hugs and kisses. We wish we could be there to celebrate his wonderful life! XOXO

Joe was a classmate of mine at Cathedral Latin, 1956. He was peppy in high school and he kept it up through the years as we met for our reunions. A wonderful, high-spirited, good-natured guy. It was always a pleasure to see you, Joe, now rest in peace.

I am sadden to read of Joe's passing and I am positive of his joy in Heaven. As a customer of Firment Chevrolet and as an insurance agent in Lorain City I was fortunate to have a wonderful working relationship with Joe and his son's.
