JOSEPH MASSALSKI Obituary

JOSEPH P. MASSALSKI CLINTON - Joseph P. Massalski, 73, passed peacefully at UMass Medical Center-University Campus in Worcester on Thursday, November 14, 2024. He is preceded in death by his son, Paul J. Massalski. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Geraldine (Hutchinson) Massalski; daughter-in-law, Julianna Record; two grandsons, Thomas B. Massalski and Samuel A. Massalski; sister, Marcia Krantz; sister-in-law Sandy Massalski; generations of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his siblings, John J. Massalski, Dorothy Massalski, and Janet Bouchard. Son of the late Joseph and Hedy (Oszajca) Massalski, Joe was born and raised in Clinton and was a graduate of Clinton High School, class of 1968. He spent many years in his first career with Sweet Life Grocers in Northborough before going back to school and achieving his professional degree as a certified occupational therapy assistant from Quinsigamond Community College. Until retiring, Joe worked as a COTA for several area nursing facilities. As a father, he was actively involved in coaching Paul's youth sports and as a Dziadzius, he cheered faithfully from the stands for Thomas and Sam. If you knew Joe, you knew his passion for music, classic rock and the great musicians of our time. He could often be found and heard listening to his tunes on the front porch of the house on most sunny days. Among his hobbies, Joe loved playing cards and a friendly game of Pitch or cribbage with family and friends. He was also an avid photographer, capturing countless family gatherings, milestones, and local landscapes. He will be forever loved and remembered. Funeral services and burial in St. John's Cemetery, Lancaster, will be held privately under the direction of Philbin-Comeau Funeral Home, 176 Water St., Clinton. I knew Joe through my place of employment. He was a fan of the Silver Surfer comic book character, a philosophical character who is at home among the stars, riding the currents of space, standing against evil-doers and tirelessly aiding those in need. I enjoyed chatting with Joe about comics whenever he visited us, but I knew little about his work or personal life. After reading his obituary, I feel I understand better why he chose the noble Silver Surfer as his favorite hero. He will be missed.
