Ila Jean Glendenning
Ila Jean Glendenning, 96, of Kearney, died at home with family on Wednesday morning, May 15, 2024. Funeral services will be Monday, May 20, 2024, at 10:30 a.m. at the Kearney Evangelical Free Church with Rev. John Fowler officiating. Burial will follow the service at the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to services on Monday at the church. Memorials in lieu of flowers are suggested to the Kearney Evangelical Free Church, Wycliffe Bible Translators, or AseraCare Hospice. Ila Jean was born January 29, 1928, in Oxford, Nebraska, to Clyde and Louisa (Baily) Blincow. Ila Jean attended New Era District 14 rural school in Furnas County and graduated from Oxford High School in 1945. She attended Kearney State Teachers College for two years, after which she taught briefly before marrying Ingle Glendenning on November 28, 1953, in Oxford, Nebraska.
Ila Jean and Ingle moved to Kearney in 1964. Her life was full with being a homemaker, mother, and helping Ingle in their business at Ingle's Oil Company for 23 years, until they retired in September of 1987. Following retirement, she briefly worked at the Hilltop Mall Pretzelmaker.
She loved Jesus, her Savior and Lord. Ila Jean served in the Evangelical Free Church in Kearney with White Cross, Pioneer Girls, Joy Fellowship, and as a Deaconess. She enjoyed her grandchildren, family reunions, and helping other people.
Left to cherish her memory are sons, Gary and Barbara Glendenning of Gretna, Dann and Pam Glendenning of Kearney; daughter, Gay and Claude Strope of Nebraska City; and grandchildren, Julia and LT COL Micah Redfield, LCDR Stephen and Meredith Glendenning, Laura Glendenning, Leah Glendenning, Elisa and Dr. Cody Masters, Eythan Strope; and five great grandchildren.
Ila Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Ingle, and grandson, Caleb Glendenning, three sisters and one brother.
