Michael L. Norris

Michael "Mike" L. Norris, age 81, of Mechanicsburg, passed away on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Born March 19, 1943 in Mechanicsburg, he was the son of the late Robert Norris and Adele (Emery) Norris Hartzell.

Mike lived a life of service to his local community, beginning in his teenage years. He volunteered with the Washington Fire Company and was a founding member of the Mechanicsburg Community Ambulance Association. He served as a police officer with both Hampden Township and Mechanicsburg Borough, was a deputy coroner, and ultimately Cumberland County Coroner, a position he held for 28 years, from 1982 to 2010. Throughout his entire career, he was a fierce seatbelt advocate and he served as the project director for PennDOT's Highway Safety Council of the local four county area.

He had served as past president for the Washington Fire Company, the PA Coroner's Association, and the International Association of Coroners and Medical Examiners. He was also a member of the International Homicide Investigators Association. In his free time, Mike was an avid fisherman, loved traveling with his wife and family, and maintained a season pass for many years at Disney World.

Mike was preceded in death by his wife, Marilyn M. (Stitzel) Norris; his son, Brian L. Norris; and his brother, Louis Hartzell. Surviving is his son, David P. Norris; his grandchildren: Rachel, Kelsie, David, Kevin, and Finn; three great-grandchildren; and his siblings: Bob Norris, Penny Hombach, and Bonnie Flohr.

Memorial services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 28 at Malpezzi Funeral Home, 8 Market Plaza Way, Mechanicsburg, where there will be a time of visitation from 9 to 11:30 a.m. and from 12 to 2 p.m.
