Dr. Pashupati (Paras) Kumar, 78, a man of intelligence, passion, and courage, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on September 27, 2023. Born in Sohsari, Bihar, India on December 2nd, 1944, he was the fourth child of the late Dr. Hari Prasad and Smt. Sharda Prasad. Dr. Kumar is survived by his loving wife, Usha Gupta. Together, they raised their cherished children, Nisith Kumar, Parimal (Asha) Kumar, and Risha (Sanjay) Lamba. His adored grandchildren, Jaigan and Akash Lamba, will remember him as a pillar of strength and wisdom. He is also survived by his brothers Mahendra (Shoba) Prasad, Dr. Arbind (Roma) Kumar, and Siddhartha (Kiran) Prasad, sister-in-law, Pratibha, loving nieces and nephews, and grand-nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by his elder sisters, Indu (Harihar) Prasad and Dharamshila (Mahendra) Ganjhu, elder brother, Raj Prasad, and nephew, Rakesh Ranjan Prasad.

Dr. Kumar was a man who never stopped dreaming or learning. His educational journey began in India, where he attended Darbhanga Medical College and developed his passion for helping others. He served as a doctor in small villages in India, honing his skills and understanding the art of medicine. His approach to medicine was respected by all, he listened to patients and relied on his experience over technology.

Dr. Kumar's professional journey was marked by hard work and determination. After working tirelessly in India to provide for his family and seeking opportunities to grow in his field, his expertise and charismatic personality led him to Scotland and shortly after, to England, where he spent five years working in several hospitals including Ninewells in Dundee and Queen's Park in Blackburn. He cherished the opportunity to build both his career and raise his family.

In 1981, Dr. Kumar arrived in America to advance his career. He settled near his sister's family in Glenville, NY, and soon became the Chief of Pediatrics at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady, NY where he worked for 39 years. His commitment to his profession was evident in his work, and he quickly became a respected figure in his field. He was an educator, a mentor, and role model for medical students and residents at Ellis Hospital. Over his lifetime, he earned many accolades, including Fellow of the Royal College Physicians (Edinburgh), Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of the United Kingdom, Membership of the Royal Colleges of Physicians of Ireland, and a Distinguished Fellow of the American Academy of Cardiology.

In addition to his professional passion, he had a particular fondness for England, where he developed a love for football (soccer) as a devoted Liverpool fan! Dr. Kumar enjoyed watching Bollywood movies, listening to Bollywood music and cooking traditional Indian food, his specialty was Lamb curry. During his retirement, he enjoyed following politics, keeping up with current events, playing cards, passing on his love for cooking and food to his beloved nephew, Utsav, and spending time with close friends and family.

Dr. Kumar will be remembered for his strong work ethic and love for family and friends, he could spark up a conversation with anyone! His strength and resilience are a testament to his character, and he leaves behind a legacy of devotion to his family, his patients, and his profession.

Dr Kumar was an amazing doctor to my children. Because of his determination and will to figure out why my daughter kept getting sick, we found out that she had bladder reflux and at 4 years old she had the surgery to correct it. He was truly amazing.
