Shannon Dale Phillips, age 52, resident of Somerville, Tennessee, departed this life Saturday evening, September 7, 2024.
Dale was born October 25, 1971 in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of Billy Joe Phillips and Linda Thompson Smith. He graduated from Craigmont High School and continued his education at the Shelby County Sheriff Training Academy in Memphis. He was employed with the Fayette County Sheriff Department for 25 years and was most recently a Captain. Dale will be remembered for being a practical prankster and he enjoyed riding his motorcycle, working out at the gym and sports, especially football.
Captain Phillips is survived by two sons, Seth Phillips of Cordova, TN and Landon Phillips of Cordova, TN; his father, Billy Joe Phillips (Judy) of Bartlett, TN; his mother, Linda Smith (Kenny) of Somerville, TN; his sister, Laura Sweeden (Steve) of Louisville, KY; two brothers, Billy Phillips, Jr. (Renee) of Clarksville, TN and Chad Wilbourn (Leslie) of Houston, TX; and his significant other, Lakennia Stewart.
Funeral Services for Captain Phillips were held at 2 P.M. Thursday, September 12, 2024 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Stan Smith, pastor of Somerville First Baptist Church, officiating. Remarks were given by Ray Garcia, Andre Searcy and Brian Massey. Interment followed in Somerville City Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Seth Phillips, Landon Phillips, David Webb, Ray Garcia, Ricky Wilson and Brian Massey. Honorary pallbearers were Kevin Jones, Trad Cannon, Jeremy Simpson, Brandon Davis and Jimmy Thomas and members of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to National Fraternal Order of Police, 701 Marriott Drive, Nashville, TN 37214.
