Joyce B. Slemp Obituary

Joyce B. Slemp, 77, of Kingsport, TN, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on January 22, 2025. She was born and raised in Dickenson County, VA, but quickly moved to Kingsport where she grew up. Joyce graduated from Ketron High School in 1966. Following her graduation, she immediately began her career in banking and spent time with several local banks until finishing her lengthy career with First Tennessee Bank. Her career in banking ultimately introduced her to her husband of 35 years, Don Slemp. Joyce was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, and Nana. She was a wonderful bookkeeper for Don and did so her whole life. She absolutely loved her two cats, Mina and Callie. Joyce had a passion for painting, ceramics, and crocheting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Jerry and Gladys Brooks; sister, Brenda DeVault; and brothers, David L. Brooks and Robert C. Brooks.

Joyce is survived by her husband, Don M. Slemp; daughters, Michelle Graham (Kevin), and Amber Kidd; step-son, Jeffrey M. Slemp; grandchildren, Logan, Allison (Damon), Jarod (Tenia), Michael, Olivia and Sophia; great-grandchildren, Brayden and Harper; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 24, 2025, at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Home, Kingsport.
