Paul Stefan Obituary

Dr. Paul C. Stefan, affectionately known as "Doc," passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, in Malvern, Pennsylvania. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Doc was known for his kindness, generosity, and quick wit. His impish sense of humor and hearty laugh brought warmth to every gathering. Above all, he cherished his family and found his greatest joy in their company. To his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, he was lovingly called "Puppy," a testament to his boundless affection. He had a special way with children, often soothing sleepy babies with soft lullabies and keeping a drawer of toys at work to delight young visitors.

A passionate golfer and longtime member of Aronimink Golf Club, Doc achieved the rare feat of matching his golf score to his age. He celebrated two holes-in-one and treasured the lifelong friendships he made on the course. In retirement, he found joy in crafting designer birdhouses, which he generously donated to Aronimink-considering it the highest compliment when some were "borrowed" from the property.

Born in 1929 on a rural farm in Kayville, Saskatchewan, Doc's early years were shaped by the Great Depression. His family later moved to Windsor, Ontario, where he attended Patterson Collegiate and the Detroit Institute of Technology. In 1951, he married Patricia Stefan (née McGinty), beginning a beautiful 73-year partnership. Together, they raised three children: Paula Stefan Hudson (Graeme) of Chester Springs, Pennsylvania; Scott Stefan (Diane) of White Plains, New York; and Michael Stefan (Faith) of Miami, Florida.

Doc built an extraordinary career in food technology. After earning a doctorate in pharmacology from the University of Michigan, he began as a pharmacist in Detroit before transitioning to the liquor industry. He joined Charles Jacquins et Cie in 1967 as Senior Vice President for Production & Research, playing a key role in developing renowned spirits such as Chambord and St. Germain liqueurs, Pravda Vodka, and Devonshire Royal Cream. His work took him across the globe, overseeing production plants in France, the UK, Poland, and China.

In addition to his wife and children, Doc is survived by his cherished brother, William Stefan of Summit, New Jersey; eight grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many beloved nieces and nephews. He is now reunited with his sisters and at peace.

A Mass will be held on April 12, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick's in Malvern, followed by a celebration of life at Aronimink Golf Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his honor to The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Cancer Center or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
