CHARLES WILES Obituary

CHARLES W. "BILL" WILES OAKWOOD, OH: Charles W. "Bill" Wiles, age 88, passed away on Monday, October 14, 2024 at ProMedica Defiance Regional Hospital. Bill was born on July 3, 1936 in Waterloo, IN to the late Charles L. and Luella (Beatty) Wiles. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. On December 17, 1966 he married Lois Warren who preceded him in death on July 14, 2021. Bill worked as a manager of the Paulding and Defiance plants of Baker-Shindler. He retired in 1996. Bill was an Auglaize Township Trustee from 1998 until 2021. He was also a founding member of the Auglaize Township Fire Department, where he served from 1975 through 2012. Bill was also a member of St. Paul United Methodist Church in Defiance. Bill had many hobbies, but his favorite were rebuilding his jeep, woodworking, and puttering in his garage. Bill will be lovingly missed by his daughters: Kim (Steve) Walker, Archbold, OH; Kerri (Bruce) Williams, Fort Wayne, IN; Kelly (Chad) Shuherk, Dayton, OH; 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren. Along with his wife and parents, Bill is also preceded in death by his brother, LaVon Wiles; two sisters, LaVern Ames and Joyce Posey. Funeral service was at 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, October 19, 2024 at Den Herder Funeral Home with Pastor Erich Christman officiating. Burial will follow in Sherman Cemetery, Brown Township with military honors accorded by the Paulding V.F.W. Post 587. Visitation was from 4:00 P.M. - 8:00 P.M. on Friday, October 18, 2024 at Den Herder Funeral Home. There was also visitation from 9:00 A.M. until time of services on Saturday. Memorial contributions may be made in Bill's memory to the Auglaize Township Fire Department. Per Bill's request, he didn't like to dress up, so casual dress is encouraged.
