George Heinlein Obituary

George Heinlein

Rochester - - January 17, 2021 at age 91. George was born on Friday, September 13, 1929 to the late Marie and Roman Heinlein. He is predeceased by the love of his life and best pal, Eleanor Zapf Heinlein. He is also predeceased by his sisters and brother in laws, Betty (Drew) Rohrer, Jane (Russ) Bonjorno, and Joan (Don) Neitz.

He is survived by his children, Mary (Timothy) Jones, Donna (Chuck) Graham, Joseph (Wendy) Rausch, and Ann Millet. He is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

He was educated at St. Monica grammar school, Aquinas Institute, and St. Bonaventure University. He often stated 'you can't beat a good Catholic education'. George served in the Korean Conflict. He was proud to have graduated from officer's candidate school at Ft. Worth Texas and commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant. George retired from Taylor Instrument in 1990 after 35 years, some of which were as manager of cost accounting. He was a long time softball player, bowler, fisherman, woodworker, hunter, gardener, and sports fan. Since 1967 he enjoyed time at a cabin he built on Sugar Creek in the beautiful hills of Ossian. Monthly, he enjoyed Manhattans with retired co-workers, Aquinas classmates, and nephews. After retiring, George was involved with volunteering at St. Monica Church where he was a parishioner since baptism in 1929. George also volunteered as an AARP tax counselor for over 20 years. He was very enthusiastic about volunteering in the wood working shop at Holy Childhood and Hope Hall.

The family would like to thank the Gables of Brighton and their wonderful aide services for making George a part of their family.

Our sincere condolences to George’s children, grandchildren and great-children. We have fond memories of Uncle George, many associated with the Cabin at Sugar Creek. And thank you for the livestream of today’s funeral Mass, which allowed us to participate even though we are in Wisconsin.

I had the pleasure of working at Taylor Instruments when George was there and playing for him on the company softball team. He was truly one of the good guys. He had a heart as big as all outdoors, always willing to help and always with a smile. Rest in peace my friend.
