Bruce began his heavenly life on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at NMMC Hospice Care in Tupelo. Born on March 5, 1953, in Houston to the late Faye and Forrest Wofford, Bruce was a graduate of Houston High School in 1971. He attended Mississippi State University where he was in ROTC, a skydiving instructor, and graduated with a business degree. He served in the U.S. Army as a 2nd Lieutenant, Engineer, Parachutist and Jungle Expert. Bruce worked in Dallas as a construction manager and in Nashville as a Regional Manager for Jim Walter Homes. In Tuscaloosa he formed a security company for concerts and met many famous musicians and bands. Returning to Houston, Bruce worked with his father in construction and later formed his own company, Wofford Construction. He and Bettye then established Animal Total Health LLC which was based on his patented formula. Bruce was a member of Prospect United Methodist Church serving as a trustee.

Bruce was passionate about skydiving and made almost 1,000 jumps, Mississippi State sporting events, a founding member and drummer in the rock band StumpWater, hunting, fishing, hummingbirds, skiing, and rock concerts. He had a lifelong love for music and could persuade most bands to give him a turn on their drums, including a few famous ones. He enjoyed telling "corny" jokes and fascinating kids with his magic and card tricks. He loved family and friends and treasured spending time with them. After Bettye, "Daddy Bruce" was happiest when he was with his grandchildren.

Bruce is survived by the love of his life, Bettye Pulliam Wofford, Ed.D. whom he married Aug.16, 2003; stepson Dendy Holcombe (Heather) of Cary, NC; stepdaughters: Mary Margaret Carnes (Mark) of Pontotoc, MS and Heather McAnally (Sean) of Nashville, TN; grandchildren: Mason Holcombe, Anna Holcombe, Ethan Carnes, Jon Robert Carnes, and Karoline Carnes; his sister Lisa Wofford Reese (Dan McGregory) of Pontotoc, MS; his brothers: Tony Wofford of Houston, MS, Robin Wofford (Terri) of Houston, MS, and Ken Wofford of Birmingham, MS; a host of nieces and nephews who he loved dearly; a very loved Aunt Maxine Baird; and a special friend, Jerald Harmon.

Pallbearers are Dendy Holcombe, Jon Robert Carnes, Scott Wofford, Robby Wofford, Brack Wofford, Jake Reese, and Jesse Wofford.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that Bruce is honored with donations to your favorite charity; Prospect Cemetery, 1207 Hwy 8 East, Houston, MS 38851; or St. Jude’s.

Carl O. Owen, III

November 29, 2024

It's with sadness I read of Bruce's passing. We attended Engineer Officer Basic Course together in the Spring of '78. Later I had the opportunity to visit him when he was stationed at Ft. Polk, LA with the 8th Engineers. Those four months are some of my fondest memories of my military career. He was always a happy go lucky guy who enjoyed life to the fullest. The photo attached was taken at Mt. Vernon with another of our friends, Randy Marshall. Every time I watch a Mississippi State football game or in my travels, pass through the Great State of Mississippi I always remember Bruce and the great times we had. My deepest sympathy to his family and friends with his passing. Carl O. Owen, III, USAR, MAJ, Retired.
