LINCOLN DENISON Obituary

PORTLAND - Lincoln Copp Denison Sr., 61, of Cornish, passed away May 14, 2012, at Maine Medical Center after a long illness. He was born June 7, 1950, in Portland, the son of Orville Boardman and Virginia Copp Denison. He graduated from Sacopee Valley High School and attended Maine Maritime Academy before graduating from Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute. He was diagnosed with cancer 20 years ago, but Linc never let the disease slow him down and was an inspiration for his continuous perseverance and positivity over his illness. Linc began his career for Cianbro Corp. in 1974 as a laborer, working his way up to become vice president of operations in the Southern New England region. His career with Cianbro spanned more than 38 years, and was a source of great pride and happiness for him. He made many lifelong friends through the company and was involved in many large projects which included National Semiconductor, Casco Bay Bridge, Portland Pipeline and S.D. Warren Paper Mill. Linc was loved by all who knew him and touched many lives. He inspired everyone he met with his positive attitude, humor, kindness and unwavering loyalty. He enjoyed fishing on his boat and on the ice with his close friends and family, and especially enjoyed yearly fishing trips with all his friends to places like Chesuncook Lake. He loved being outside and spending time at his home in Cornish. A devoted father and grandfather, nothing brought Linc more joy than being with his family. No words can ever describe what Linc meant to his children and grandchildren, but the love and support Granddaddy provided will be his legacy. He was a member of Associated Builders and Contractors of Connecticut. Linc is survived by two sons, Lincoln Jr. and his wife, Michele (Fate) Denison, of Cornish and Jason and his wife, Danika (Jones) Denison, of Porter and her children, Johann and Skylar; a daughter, Lindsey and her husband, Stephen Dyda, of Stow, Mass.; his sister, Deborah and her husband, Alan Schock, of Cape Elizabeth; niece and goddaughter, Jennifer (Schock) Haskell and her daughter, Elizabeth, of Middletown, R.I.; his four grandchildren, Brady and Abigail Denison and Amelia and Jack Dyda. Linc was very excited about the upcoming arrival of his fifth grandchild, Bristol, due in early June. He is also survived by several beloved cousins, nieces and nephews. The family thanks the staff at The Gibson Pavillion at Maine Medical Center for the love and care they showed to Linc and his family during his illness. They are especially grateful to Dr. Jacquelyn Hedlund; and nurses, Jared, Leah, Nancy and Caroline for their tireless support and compassion. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a time of visitation 4-7 p.m. Friday, May 18, at Jones, Rich & Hutchins Funeral Home, 199 Woodford St., Portland. A memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, May 19, at The Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, Cumberland Avenue, Portland, with the Rev. Gregory Dube, celebrant. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Maine Children's Cancer Program, care of Maine Medical Center, 22 Bramhall St., Portland, ME 04102. Linc Denison, my old friend. Many moons ago when we were young and such decisions came easily we agreed that when this time came there would be no tears, no sadness. I have not held up my end of that agreement.
From the school yard to the back yard, playtime and work, thru kids and grandkids, to performing the wedding ceremony for Deb and me, so many memories.
Today I hold my glass up high and give a toast the life of my old friend on the High Road.
I'll catch ya down the road buddy.

Peggi

May 18, 2012

Linc, where do I begin. I can't remember a time when I didn't know you. Our parents were friends, we were neighbors on the High Road. I was so pleased when you came home permanently and I could hail you from your mailbox, but it was much too short a time. The High Road didn't seem the same without you. You watched out over all your friends, one day years ago you didn't think I had enough orange in my mail jeep during hunting season and insisted I take an orange vest so I'd be safe on those back roads. We talked about how lucky we were that we had the parents we did, not everyone was so lucky. Well your children and grandchildrem had that same type of parent and you were taken from them much too soon. You will be missed by everyone that knew you and the High Road will never be the same again. Linc, Jason, & Linds my heart goes out to you and believe me as one who also lost a parent at too young an age I know how you feel. My love to all of you at the very difficult time, Peggi

To the Denison Family,
My deepest sympathies are with you all. I want to thank Mr. Denison for so warmly opening his home to so many of his children's friends like myself. He was personally a role model for what it meant to be a great father, successful in business and life, and just overall a wonderful person. It was an honor to have known him. There aren't many out there like Mr. Denison and he will be sadly missed by all.

Linc Jr. and family,
Your dad was one of the very best. Many of us at the Cianbro family have learned a lot from him - not only the "how to do" lessons but more importantly the "how to be" lessons. We will miss him but you can rest assured that his remarkable legacy lives on. You are in our thoughts and prayers.

How do you say goodbye to a friend that touched hearts the way that Linc did? Of all our friends we can say that he was on top of the list, the finest, sweetest, most compassionate and least of all FUN human being we could all have the honor of having in our lives. We are heartbroken and will never forget all the times we shared. Linc, your legacy will live on in your children, grandchildren and your many friends forever. You got a bad rap and never compained. Your time was cut WAY too short. We love you so very much and will miss you. Our hearts ache for Linc Jr, Jason and Lindsey and their families. Keep smiling on us..........Love "Johnny" and Jane

During our Gorham High School years together [prior to SVHS openning for Linc`s Senior year ] ,Linc was the glue to a large group of mutual friends and the brother I never had. Whether in Cornish or Gorham , our families` houses were home to both of us and I have such fond memories of those years. Linc was such an enthusiastic dynamo who bonded easily with otherwise disparate people. We have been blessed to have shared Linc`s influence in our lives and will cherish his memory.Heartfelt condolences are extended to all of Linc`s family.
