William McNamara Obituary

William Bertrand McNamara, Jr.
06/09/1962 - 06/11/2023
William Bertrand McNamara, Jr., a long-time resident of Fairfield, is roundly described by friends and loved ones as brilliant, kind, gentlemanly, and "the funniest guy I've ever met." He was born in New York City and spent his childhood in Greenwich. Bill graduated from high school as a National Merit Scholar and then matriculated from Tufts University with a BA in 1984.
A well-respected mortgage broker, Bill made his reputation as a gifted problem solver who took great pride in assisting clients to realize their dreams of home ownership. He felt helping veterans avail themselves of little-known V.A. assistance programs an especially rewarding aspect of his work.
Bill enjoyed poker as a favorite past-time and was noted for his skill both in running games and as a player. His affable, engaging personality coupled with his knowledge of the game made him an adored social conduit for the local circuit. In founding the legendary "Wednesday Night Game" at Bobby Q's, Bill created a vibrant community of players spanning Fairfield and New Haven counties.
With an abundance of warmth and humor, he embraced a fatherly role in his 40s. After meeting his wife Lynn and her two children, Sebastian and June, he quickly became a cornerstone of his instant family. Participating in Scouting trips and teaching the kids how to play sports, especially baseball, was one of his great pleasures. Bill was an avid sportsman who played basketball, baseball and helped coach the Tufts Women's softball team. His golf skills led a life-long best friend to reflect, "He was money from downtown and a killer putter."
Bill is survived by the family he cherished, his wife Lynn, stepchildren Sebastian and June, mother and father Catherine and William B. McNamara, Sr., and sister and brother-in-law Liz and Larry Dexheimer.
Services will be held: 28th of June, 11:00 AM, at The Unitarian Universalist Congregation in Westport, 10 Lyons Plain, Rd., Westport, CT 06880.
Regional Hospice of Western Connecticut, made it possible for Bill to live in comfort and dignity, surrounded by caring and beauty until his death on June 11, 2023. In lieu of flowers the family kindly requests donations to this wonderful place in honor of this wonderful man.

Bill telephoned, "I have a fluffy thing under my desk, sitting on my feet." Oh, wow! That fluffy thing was our 6 lb Yorkie, Tuesday, who had escaped our house and snuck into Bill´s. Tuesday was only a puppy then, but she had picked Bill. I don´t know - maybe it was his calm, his warmth or his gentleness. Tuesday was a good judge of character, and Bill was her favorite. She was right: Bill was a great guy, through and through. So sorry to learn of his passing.

So sad to hear this news. I saw Billy last year for the first time in 40 years at our senior babe Ruth reunion. He was an excellent teammate back then. He was always encouraging and he had a great baseball mind. It was a joy to see him last summer. My prayers go out to Billy´s entire family, and I pray he is resting comfortably in heaven with a glove on one hand and a bat in the other. God Bless. Bobby Kolb

What a life well lived! We were able to meet Billy and spend a little time with him on a couple of his visits with Cathy and Bill in Houston. He was a delight so helpful to his parents and such fun to be around Our hearts go out to his family and our prayers are with them all. Love, Paula and Steve.

Billy-as my friend Cathy-his Mom lovely called him always felt such joy when he would come to Houston and spend quality time with his Parents!
He had this amazing ability to
make them feel loved. Plus, they always spoke of all of how much joy just being together meant to them over the years.

Billy shared his many talents when his Mom and Dad decided to relocate last year to a new home. He gave them his time and showed such love in helping them settle in to this new environment. Nothing like family to be there for you when needed!
He will always be thought of as their loving, highly intelligent, honorable son -who possessed and demonstrated -great character -in his life. He will always be their dearly loved son named -Billy!
