Daniel Pitifer Obituary

GENEVA/FLORIDA - Daniel "Danny" Pitifer, II, 81, passed away after a short illness on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, in Florida. Danny's calling and service was Monday, September 23, from 10 am to 11 am at the Palmisano-Mull Funeral Home, 28 Genesee Street. A prayer service will follow at 11 am at the funeral home. The burial will be at a later date, in Glenwood Cemetery.

Danny was born on November 16, 1942, in Geneva, NY and was the son of the late Josephine (Galusha) and Daniel Pitifer, Sr. Danny was a graduate of DeSales High School and a retiree of the Geneva City School District. Danny met the love of his life, MaryEllen in his late 40's. After marrying and spending some time in Geneva, they set off to live in in fair weather states. Danny loved all things sports. He played numerous sports in high school. His love of playing sports continued into his 70's where he remained active playing softball. Danny was an avid Yankees fan, every conversation during baseball season led to the Yankees. Danny had a fantastic memory for dates- he never missed a birthday or anniversary. He will be sadly missed by friends in California where he lived for almost 20 years, his friends in his tightknit community in Florida and his hometown family and friends in Geneva.

Danny is survived by his wife Mary Ellen (Remas) Pitifer of Florida; brother Richard "Dick" (Julie) Pitifer of Geneva; nieces and nephew Danelle (Chad) Telarico, Richard Pitifer and Nicole (Matthew) Giardino and several great nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his parents Daniel and Josephine (Galusha) Pitifer.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Geneva Little League.

My classmates and many others are so sorry that we missed speaking to the family and attending a service for Dan. Danny was one of the friendliest and most fun loving members of the Class of 1961. We still say the funny things he was noted for. He gave the impression of being tough but we all knew better. We will have a mass said for him and a group of us went up to the steps at DeSales and pitched quarters. Dan would have loved that.

Many years ago Danny was a member of the St. Francis Championship Basketball team. My dad Chester Wiatrowski was his coach. Many years later Danny, Mary Ellen and I lived next door to each other at the townhouses. Danny and I would talk about that team and I gave him an original newspaper clipping from that championship game. I am so sorry for your loss Mary Ellen. My prayers are with you. Love Liz Wiatrowski.
