Helen Elaine Sheppard Higginbotham

Went to eternal rest surrounded by family on the morning of October 22, 2023 after a short and aggressive fight with cancer. Helen was was born September 8, 1948 in Laytonsville, MD. She was a charter member of the Laytonsville District Volunteer Fire Department 's Ladies Auxiliary. Professionally she was an administrative assistant for Lockheed Martin Corporation in Bethesda, MD where she worked for more than two decades before retiring. She will always be remembered for her quick wit, her love for music, singing karaoke, and her ornamental plants. She was an avid bowler for many decades. She had an ability to light up a room with her smile. She was known to all for her humor and her ability to have fun. She was preceded in death by her parents William "Johnny" and Ola Sheppard, sister Gracie Kuykendall, brother Sam Sheppard. She is survived by her husband Louis Higginbotham of Dunnellon, Florida. Her brother Dave Sheppard of Hagerstown, MD, her son Matthew (wife Jennifer) Montgomery of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Grandchildren Morgan Davis and Maybree Montgomery of Myrtle Beach, SC, Mitchell (wife Alexandra)Montgomery and their daughter Carolina of Loris, SC, Marley (husband Peter) Lukshis and their daughter Hagen of Conway, SC, Stepson Jeremiah (wife Amy) Higginbotham and their children Chloe, Jordan, Zoey, and Jeremiah Jr. of Conroe, Texas

"Bunny" was my best friend at Sherwood High School. We enjoyed our 50th high school reunion together. We hadn't been together for years but immediately began conversing in "Brother Dave Gardner" lingo as we had done when we were kids. Bunny was awesome and unforgettable.

Louis, Matt, Jeremiah and Family,
Gene and I are so very sorry for your loss. I remember the day that you all moved across the street from us in Frederick. We were instant friends and had some great times. I am blessed to have the memories that we made. Bunny was a joy to be around. She was funny and always wanted to have fun.
