Gerald Usener Obituary
February 16, 1949 - July 21, 2025
Gerald David Usener, a devoted husband, loving father and proud Opa, went to be with the Lord on July 21, 2025.
Born in Fredericksburg on February 16, 1949 to Elgin and Almeta "Uddie" Usener. He was the middle child of three. Gerald graduated from St. Mary's High School in 1967. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Gerald served in the Navy aboard USS Bronstein from 1968 to 1972. He married his wife, Cinda Lou Usener, nee Kramer, at Holy Ghost Lutheran Church on November 4, 1978. This November would have been their 47th Anniversary. Together, they had 2 daughters. They moved to Austin where he retired from the USPS after 35 years.
Gerald loved all things History, his favorite being Texas History. He had a passion for music. You could often hear him listening to Buddy Holly or Muddy Waters while riding around his property, checking on trees. Friday nights, Gerald loved nothing more than going to watch high school football games with his dear brother, Patrick. His favorite team was his daughters' alma mater, the Lake Travis Cavaliers. He enjoyed watching movies and eating popcorn with his two grandsons. Of all the things Gerald enjoyed, the most important thing to him of all was family.
To know Gerald was to know laughter. Though he faced many health issues, he always smiled and laughed. His blue eyes truly twinkled when he laughed. So, it is very fitting that he passed away while laughing. No pain, no sorrow, just laughter.
He will be missed dearly.
He is survived by his wife, Cinda; his two daughters and their husbands - Cassandra & Griffin Lott of Dripping Springs, Michelle & Erik Strickland of Dripping Springs; his two grandsons, Ryker & Brayden Lott; his sister, Carolyn Kuhlmann of Fredericksburg; brother, Patrick Usener of Austin; nieces, Gretchen Weber, Erica Weber, Melissa Usener-Finkel & Cory Camp; nephews, Dustin Kramer, Sheldon Hacker, Joshua Kramer & Sterling Kramer and many great-nieces & nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Elgin & Almeta Usener; sister-in-law, Rhonda Baethge Usener; brothers-in-law, George W. Weber, Jackson Kuhlmann & Gary W. Kramer and many other loved ones.
A memorial service for Gerald will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, October 4, 2025 at Greenwood Cemetery, 1665 N. Llano St., Fredericksburg, TX 78624.
