Rev. Douglas Messer

Born: December 31, 1942 | Died: October 7, 2025

Rev. Doug Messer, age 82, of Newport, TN, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. Doug ran Doug Messer septic tank service for many years until his retirement, he was a family man and loved them all dearly, but most of all Doug was known for his love for his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, whom he had preached about for over 50 years. He was the pastor of many churches over the years in Cocke, Sevier, and Jefferson counties.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane Messer; son, Joseph Messer; parents John and Rachael Bea Messer; brothers Frank and Ronnie Messer; sisters, Hester Turner and Christine Ball; and grandson, John Messer.

He is survived by his sons, Doug (Teresa) Messer Jr., David Messer, Tom (Amy) Messer, and Nooge (Samantha) Messer; brother, Carson (Ruby) Messer; sister, Lola Hembree; also many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren; along with a host of friends whom he loved dearly.

The family will Receive Friends 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Manes Funeral Home. The Funeral Service will follow at 7 p.m. in the Manes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Leon Large and Rev. Glenn Ball officiating. Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 10, 2025, in the Messer Family Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Tom Messer, Doug Messer Jr., Nooge Messer, Johnny Messer, Matthew Woody, and Roger Gilbert.
