James Anthony Wood has permanent guard duty at the Gates of Heaven. A resident of Ponchatoula, LA, he passed away on Saturday, October 26, 2024 at the age of 78. James was born Saturday, February 23, 1946 in LaCeiba, Honduras and was a past resident of Arabi and Violet, LA. He is the son of the late James Chalmer Wood and Alicia Guerrero Wood. James is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Laura Bovia Wood; two daughters, Tanya Landry (Leonard) and Vanna Callahan (T.J.); grandsons, Lennon Landry and Harrison Callahan; sister, Mary Alice Langlois (Joe) of Belle Chasse, LA; brother, William L. Wood (Jean) of Woodland, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
James was a graduate of Chalmette High School and a retired Instrument Technician at Domino Sugar Refinery in Chalmette, LA. He served with pride as a Sgt. in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1963-1968. His love for his country was surpassed only by his love for his family. He is a life member 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines Association, a member of American Legion Post 47 in Ponchatoula, LA, and a member of the Subic Bay Marines. James was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He loved fishing, boating, and wood working in his spare time.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend the Funeral Services at Garden of Memories Funeral Home & Cemetery, 4900 Airline Drive Metairie, LA 70001 on Tuesday, October 29, 2024.
