Genevieve "Genowefa" Koziol, 97, of Wethersfield, beloved wife for 50 years of the late Joseph Koziol, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, December 8, 2023, with her loving daughter by her side. Daughter of the late Stanislaw and Bronislawa (Kaczowka) Misiaszek, she was born in Zalipie, Poland on February 28, 1926.
As a young girl, Gienia enjoyed growing up in her small village of Zalipie. She adored all animals and had a love for horses which endured her entire life. She was proud of the work she did as a "malarka", painting beautiful flowers on houses. During World War II, she aided the Polish Home army in committing acts of resistance against the German occupiers, befittingly adopting the pseudonym "Stokrotka" (Daisy).
She immigrated to the United States with her husband and daughter in 1961 and settled in Hartford. Genevieve and her family quickly became a part of the Polish community in Hartford, joining the SS. Cyril & Methodius Church. Genevieve was a proud member of many organizations, including the Polish Army Veterans Association of America (Post #119) Women's Auxiliary, the Rosary Society, Brother Albert Society, Sacred Heart of Jesus Society, and the Golden Seniors. Genevieve worked as a seamstress at Gold Bond Mattress in Hartford for over 30 years until her retirement.
She leaves her daughter, Angela Koziol Perucki with her husband Henry of Newington; four grandchildren, William Perucki with his wife Megan of Avon, Lisa Huckins with her husband Thomas of South Windsor, Richard Perucki with his significant other, Caryn Smith of
Berwick, ME, and Joseph Perucki of Andover; four great-grandchildren, Andrew and Hannah Perucki of Avon, and Jacob and Nathan Huckins of South Windsor; along with several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her brother, Edward Misiaszek; and her sister, Wanda Kurtyka.
Her family will receive friends on Saturday, December 16, 8-9:30 a.m., at the Waszkelewicz South Green Memorial Home, 43 Wethersfield Ave., Hartford, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, 10 a.m., at SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, Hartford. Burial will follow in Sacred Heart Cemetery, New Britain. Memorial donations may be made to SS. Cyril & Methodius Church, 55 Charter Oak Ave.,
Hartford, CT 06106.
