Catherine Schwartz Obituary

CATHERINE ELOISE MARX SHAW SCHWARTZ It is with great sadness; we announce the passing of Catherine Eloise (n?e Marx) Shaw Schwartz. Peacefully surrounded by family, she made the passage to eternal life on September 26, 2023. Cathy was born November 26, 1940 in Honolulu, Hawaii, the daughter of Benjamin and Mary (Botts) Marx. She grew up in the Nu'uanu area of Honolulu and attended the Hanahau'oli School. In 1958, she graduated from Punahou where she was a song leader and member of the synchronized swim team. In 1962, she received her bachelor's degree at Dominican College of San Rafael. Beloved by many, she worked in a variety of fields, ranging from corporate settings, the culinary arts, marketing, and promotional sales. Shortly after graduating college, she moved to Chicago after a brief stint in Boston. She lived in the Chicago area for almost 60 years. Those who knew her, adored "Tutu". She had an extraordinary sense of humor, humility, wisdom, and qualities that are difficult to put into words. To say she was one of a kind, feels like an understatement. She will be missed by the countless people her life touched. Surviving family include four children, Jeff Shaw (Carmela) of Glenview, IL, Ben Shaw (Polly) of Overland Park, KS, Juliette Noyes (Eric) of Bozeman, MT and Bill Schwartz (Angie) of Barrington, IL; three siblings, Molly Wilkinson, Cindy Johnstone (Bud), Benjamin Marx III (Kelly); and eleven grandchildren, Alexandria and Arianna Shaw, Crawford, Oliver and Ceci Noyes, Eden and Emery Shaw, Emma and Brayden Lamke, and Weber and Lanie Schwartz. She was preceded in death by her parents Ben and Mary Marx and her brother-in-law, Bobby Wilkinson. A celebration of life will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to MD Anderson Cancer Center. Arrangements Provided By: Cremation Society of Illinois
