September 22, 1942 - October 26, 2024

SULLIVAN - Shirley Ann (Cundiff) Ditzler, 82, passed away peacefully at Eastview Terrace in Sullivan, IL on October 26, 2024. Born on September 22, 1942, in Decatur, IL, Shirley was the daughter of Floyd and Martha (Stoldt) Cundiff of Argenta, IL.

Shirley welcomed three children with her first husband James Douglas Whitaker: Cathy, Christopher, and Curtis Whitaker. Shirley married Clarence Andrew Ditzler, Jr. on December 16, 1972, and welcomed two daughters: Martha Marie and Lois Denise Ditzler.

Her legacy continues through her children: Christopher Whitaker of Cerro Gordo, IL, Curtis Whitaker (Emily Born) of Iowa City, IA, Martha (Thomas) Brogan of Williamsburg, IA, and Lois (Jose) Medrano of San Antonio, TX; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters: Betty Budde of Argenta, IL and Marilyn Mills of Decatur, IL.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband's: James Douglas Whitaker and Clarence Andrew Ditzler, Jr., her daughter, Cathy Whitaker, and her brother-in-law, Eldred Budde.

Shirley dedicated her professional life to the well-being of others as a Registered Nurse at HSHS St. Mary's Hospital in Decatur, IL. She is remembered fondly by many of her long-standing co-workers at St. Mary's. Her commitment to her faith was unwavering, and as a member of Pilgrim Lutheran Church in Decatur, she found joy and purpose. Shirley was musically gifted, singing in the choir and playing organ for the church.

Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 2, 2024, at Glenwood Cemetery in Shelbyville, IL with Reverend William Abbott officiating. Lockart-Green Funeral Home in Shelbyville, IL is assisting the family.

The family would like to thank Eastview Terrace employees for over 10 years of care for Shirley. She had a variety of great caregivers who brought a smile to her face over the years. Thank you also to Pastor Abbot for faithfully visiting Shirley over the many years of her illness.
