James Hammons Obituary

Veteran James "Joe" Hammons passed away unexpectedly on January 2, 2025, in Rogers, AR, from complications following a heart attack. James was born on March 14, 1949, in Antlers. At just 20 years old, James enlisted in the United States Army where he proudly served during the Vietnam War. He later pursued his education in business and finance at Oklahoma City University and dedicated 25 years to public service as a successful U.S. Postmaster supervising hundreds of employees. He later founded Hammons Financial Planning & Investments, a highly successful firm devoted to helping people from all walks of life manage their finances and achieve greater prosperity. James is the son of James William Hammons and Margart Ann Hammons Smithson who proceeded him in death. Joe is survived by his two sons, James William Hammons and Mark Edward Hammons of Rogers, AR; Their mother, Cindy Hammons of Rogers, AR; his two brothers, Stan Hammons of Antlers, OK, and Jesse "J.R." Hammons of Atlanta, GA; his two sisters, Marilyn Goss of Wauchula, FL, and Margie Hefner of Oklahoma City, OK; and his three grandchildren, Victoria Hammons of Lincoln, AR, and Dylan and Emma Hammons of Rogers, AR. An avid outdoorsman, James enjoyed fishing, hiking, gardening, and musician. He was also a devoted Arkansas Razorbacks and Oklahoma Sooners fan. With a passion for genealogy, James spent many years researching his family history and ancestors. He maintained a commitment to health, regularly exercising and enjoying organic foods. Later in life, he found renewed joy in playing the guitar and eventually formed a band humorously named Antique Roadshow. Performing and sharing his music with the world brought him immense happiness. James was a loving and compassionate man who cherished time with his family and friends. A true treasure to everyone who knew him, he will be deeply missed by many. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Oklahoma Church of Christ in Antlers.
