Marian Matheny Obituary

Marian Margaret Matheny, 78, of Lawrence passed away Sunday, Dec. 22, 2024, at home surrounded by her family.

Marian was born March 12, 1946, in Rushville, Ind., the daughter of Clayton and Elberta (Stoner) Curtis.

On May 2, 1964, Marian was united in marriage with Clark Matheny and he survives along with their three sons: Erik (Joe Cadena) Matheny, Michael (Patty) Matheny and Jeff (Jill) Matheny; seven grandchildren: Kayla Matheny, Trent (Katelyn) Matheny, Abby Matheny, Jacob Matheny, Dylan (Camilla) Matheny, Sara Matheny and Ella Matheny; a great-granddaughter, Sadie and a niece, Antonia Forrest.

Marian was preceded in passing by her parents and two brothers: George Curtis and David Curtis.

Marian was a loving mother and grandmother, devoted wife and ever faithful to Jesus and her family and friends. She was a strong lady who endured a lot of hardship in her life. The hardest and long fought final battle against Parkinson's disease finally got the best of her. She fought it hard to the end and didn't spend much time complaining or wallowing in self pity or holding onto resentment. Marian was exceptionally brave and instead remained focused on God and family. Being with family brought her the most happiness. She had a big heart and huge capacity for love and forgiveness. The example she set will be hard to follow.

The family will welcome friends from 10:30 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Dec. 28, at the Calvin Funeral Home in Hartford, where a celebration of life service will take place at noon. Pastor Glen Cowles of the East Arlington Baptist Church will officiate. Marian will be laid to rest in Hicks Cemetery in Arlington Township.
