Douglas John Cook, age 65, of Tucson, AZ passed away peacefully on Saturday July 27, 2024, at his family cabin in Blairsville, following an extended illness. Doug was born on August 10, 1958, in West Palm Beach, FL, the son of the late Lloyd Cook and the late Jeanne Carroll Bestul Cook.
Doug was an artist, a lover of Southwestern architecture, a lover of reading and history, cycling, hiking, and cooking. He also loved building furniture, Arizona baseball, and music. Doug bicycle toured in Europe, Canada and the U.S. He worked building for Earthship in Taos, New Mexico, Central America and Canada. Doug threw himself into his projects with intense energy and passion, and his work was always of the highest quality. He devoted the last ten years to improving the family cabin in Blairsville, spending his summers there, and transforming the shoreline with countless hours of labor.
Doug is survived by sisters Liane (Mark) Cubbage and Jan (Brad) Peterson, two brothers, Jeff (Sandy) Cook, Steve (Janet) Cook, and many loving nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

It was always fascinating to hear about Doug's global cycle-touring adventures, the Earthships he helped build and to see his beautifully designed & completed home improvement projects. What a brilliant and multi-talented Renaissance man he was. We will always treasure the memories of his friendship.

Dear Liane and family — we were so saddened to learn of Doug’s passing. We are lifting you all up in our prayers and know that God’s hand is upon you and His peace will sustain you. We so enjoyed playing fantasy football with Doug and his smile was so bright! A wonderful uncle and sweet brother, we know. Our deepest sympathies to you.

My thoughts and prayers are with Doug’s family during this difficult time. Although it had been a while since I saw Doug, I often think about the great times I had with him (especially the Canadian fishing trips). His work ethic, fitness discipline, culinary skills and sense of humor were just a few of his many positive traits he instilled in us. Doug will be greatly missed by many.

I am so sorry. Some of the best times of my life were spent with Doug. Ski trips, basketball league, golf league and of course the legendary fly in fishing trips. Throughout my life no one has made me laugh more than Doug. Honest, caring, funny and principled. I had the utmost respect for Doug. Best to the family.

Dear family, I hope you don’t mind, but I would like to extend my deepest condolences to you on the great loss of your brother Doug. No words of mine can ever ease your overwhelming sadness, I just wanted you to know that I write this with a heavy heart. Although I haven’t seen Doug in many years, I have always thought of him with great affection. My husband joins me in hoping that soon you could find some comfort in your many special memories, and in the thought of the happy years you shared. May the love of family and friends strengthen you in the days ahead. Please accept our sincere sympathy at the loss of someone so special.

Heartbreaking news. Doug was a dear friend to my mother, Doris Krautler, recently passed. He looked after her visiting often. Our conversations in the driveway will be missed. Doug was such a kind and gentle soul. He will be greatly missed. Sincerest condolences to the family.

We had the pleasure of knowing Doug through his sister, Liane. Doug always had a smile on his face and a warmth to him that made you smile too. There was no doubt why he was so special to his sister and brother-in-law, Mark. Our hearts are with all of his family.
