Mrs. Howell, I was so shocked to learn of your loss. I just wanted to let you know that you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Dr. Howell delivered both of my children and always had time to listen to me and give me words of wisdom. He was one of the greatest people that I have ever meet. He always called me peanut. I was a very young mother and he only took me as a patient because my mother was one of his patients. He always told me I was like raising another child. He truly was a GREAT Man. He will be greatly missed.

Dr Howell was two years behind me at Riverside. I was a drug detailman in Atlanta while he was doing his residency at Georgia Baptist Hospital and saw him frequently while he was there.

I called on his father, J.C. at Dillehay's and remember his father and mother riding to Birmingham with me to visit Pistol while he was in Medical School.

My heartfelt sympathy to the family.

Dr. Howell delivered both of my children, in 1972 and 1974. He always had time to talk and listen to any problems I might have. I have missed seeing him since he retired. He was a wonderful, caring doctor.

I have traveled many miles since Dr. Howell was my doctor in Decatur. I arived in Decatur in the middle 60's and left in the the middle to late 70'S. I know without a doubt that he was my savior several times. I have wished many times that I could travel back there just for the wonderful doctor that I found Dr. Howel to be. My thoughts and prayers will be with his family in the coming days ahead, I know that times will be rough. Just a little trust in the Lord will help you through these bad days that the whole family will have to face. Just trust in the Lord and you will find the light of day.

Dear Jan, Charlie, John and Todd,

We are so sorry we could not be with you all on Thursday. Please know that we have kept you in our prayers daily and will continue to remember your family. Glenn and I loved Pistol so very much and will greatly miss his smile, jokes and wonderful sense of humor. He also did a great job of bringing a big, breech baby brother to me on May 29, 1967. I look forward to visiting with you very soon in Decatur.

Love to all,

Karen, Glenn, Tyler, Harrison and Wilson.

Dear, dear Inez, and all your family, we go so far back- to when we lived on Jackson St and 10th Ave, from '47 to '65, and you lived on Grant and Tenth, we were neighbors. You were a joy for all to know. I regret the loss of both of your great men in your life, 'JC' and 'Pistal'. Fine people.

With love to you,Inez, and all of Pistal's family,

I am praying for you all during this loss of your loved one. As a patient of Dr. Howell's, he was a great man and gave me much comforting when I was going through a tramatic time of divorce in my life. He spoke words of wisdom and had a heart the size of Texas. He was open, honest, and very frank with me. I will forever hold his memory in my heart. A good man, a great man, a giant of a man, and yes, indeed, a "Pistol". I thank God for his presence in my life. May God bless you, keep you safe, give you a peace that passes all understanding, and may you find your comfort in HIS arms.
