Jeffrey Humphreys Obituary

Greenleaf - Jeffrey Scott Humphreys, 57, passed away on February 3, 2025, in Boise, Idaho.

Born on July 21, 1967, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, Jeff developed a passion for computers at an early age. At just nine years old, his father gave him his first book on programming, sparking a lifelong love for technology. He became an expert in many types of programming and was known as a database engineer extraordinaire among his colleagues. Though he attended college in Albuquerque, New Mexico, he never completed his degree-because he didn't need to. Like many talented individuals, his talent and expertise spoke for themselves. While this decision presented challenges later in life, he faced them head-on and persevered.

Jeff was a man of many passions and contradictions-a loving husband and father, a computer geek, a gun enthusiast, and a comedian with a sharp wit. He was also an eccentric curmudgeon with an introverted nature but he had the soul of an artist and musician. A philosopher at heart, he found joy in collecting and cataloging movies-vintage classics and modern films alike-ensuring that no cinematic gem went unnoticed. His love for animals was evident in the way he cared for his dogs, Bella Dancerella, Poppy, and Cubby (though Cubby held a special place in his heart despite the barking). Like Edgar Allan Poe, he also had a deep admiration for crows and even built a feeding platform where he left unsalted peanuts and scrambled eggs for them.

Jeff's illness came suddenly-unexpected yet not entirely surprising. Diabetes is a cruel disease that does not discriminate; though his heart was loving and true, it took him too soon. In his final days, when it became clear that he would not survive, Julie asked him to send her a sign that he was still near-to send her an eagle. In the two days that followed his passing, she saw two eagles appear-a testament to how much he wanted her to know that his love endured beyond this life.

He is survived by his wife, Julie; his son Joshua Scott Humphreys of Pennsylvania; his parents, D. Russell Humphreys of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and Bonnie Humphreys of Boise; sister Julia Keller; two adopted children, Christi Eyre (Nick) and Dustin Humphreys of Pennsylvania; Julie's children-Sarah Garza, Caitlin Neely, and Melissa Rinard; nine grandchildren; and two beloved dogs who will miss him dearly.

Jeff was predeceased by his first wife, Christiana, whom he cared for lovingly during her battle with leukemia. Sister Debbie Humphreys who died in childhood He also devoted himself to caring for Julie during her years of illness and disability-bringing her bananas and dark chocolate (which he sometimes ate himself out of sheer desperation).

Jeffrey Scott Humphreys lived life on his own terms-a renaissance man with an insatiable curiosity for knowledge and an unwavering devotion to those he loved. His memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
