Robert Bohus Obituary

Dr. Robert W. Bohus passed away unexpectedly on Nov. 1, 2023. He was born Sept. 9, 1952 in Wheeling, WV and was raised in Zanesville, OH. Bob was the oldest of Albert and Rose Bohus' two sons.

Bob was a gifted athlete. He accepted a full ride scholarship to play football at the University of Wyoming (UWYO) in Laramie, WY. Go Pokes! Bob graduated from UWYO with a Bachelor of Science in Zoology in 1974.

Bob graduated from the University of Colorado with a Doctorate in Medicine. He interned at The State University of New York (Stony Brook, NY), and completed his urology residency at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center (Hanover, NH).

While working as a resident, Bob met his future wife, Betti Horsfield, and they fell in love through a mutual appreciation for the outdoors. Bob had a passion for mountaineering and ice climbing. They eventually settled in Sheridan, Wyoming where he began a private urology practice.

Bob and Betti blazed their own trails exploring the wild Yukon Territory (Canada), immersed themselves in the local culture of the Himalayas, and trekked throughout Wyoming's Big Horns and Wind River Mountain Ranges, to name just a few of their adventures.

While in Sheridan, Bob was invited to join the 'Cowboys on Everest' expedition. In 1988 he climbed the North Side of Mount Everest, making it to 23,000 feet. Due to 200 mph winds, their team was forced back to base camp. He climbed Denali in Alaska and numerous other mountains on other continents befo¬re retiring from mountaineering to start a family.

Bob and Betti had two daughters: Allie and Brooke. In 1994 the family moved from Sheridan to Pocatello and Bob again started a private practice. He respected his patients and treated them with kindness, warmth and empathy.

As a part of his effort to be as approachable a physician as possible, he ditched the traditional lab coat for his signature Wrangler jeans and cowboy boots, and developed a knack for explaining complex medical concepts in layman's terms.

Out of everything Bob achieved in his life, being a dad and watching his daughters excel was what he was most proud of. He had a strong moral compass and passed that virtue on to both of his girls. He was keenly intellectual, a lifelong learner, and humble. It was important to him to pass along his knowledge to others. He was very kind, thoughtful and charitable.

Bob was a lifelong outdoorsman, a talented photographer and explorer whose travels took him to nearly every continent and 21countries.

His legacy will live on through the adventurous spirit of his daughters, Allie (Broc), Brooke (Tina) and his beloved granddaughter Mesa Jo. He will be lovingly remembered by family, friends and colleagues.

He is preceded in death by his parents Albert and Rose Bohus (Zanesville, OH) and brother, Donald Bohus (Dixmont, ME). There will be a memorial held Friday, 11/10 at 11:10 a.m. at Cornelison Funeral Home, 431 North 15th Ave. in Pocatello with a visitation from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Condolences may be sent to the family at P.O. Box 490 Inkom, ID 83245.

Please accept my condolences. I only recently learned of your dad's passing, so it's been nearly two years. I knew your dad before he got into medical school, and helped write his medical school entrance essay. We had talked a few times since then, and he often mentioned how proud he was of you. I can only imagine how hard it is to lose him.
