Malcolm Woodman Obituary

Woodman Malcolm James (Woody) Loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother, Malcolm James Woodman , (Woody), age 87, died peacefully at home on October 5, 2023 surrounded by his family after a three-year battle with cancer. Born in St. Louis, MO to Arnold J. and Rose E. (Feckter), Malcolm graduated from St. Louis University with a degree in Electrical Engineering and went on to earn an MBA from Drexel University. He began his career at Westinghouse Corporation followed by positions at Sun Oil Company, United Engineers and Constructors/Raytheon Engineers and Constructors and finally Burns Engineering. During the time he worked, Woody pursued a healthy lifestyle by walking 3 miles each day to and from 69th St. where he caught the "El" into Center City. Along with a successful career and raising 6 children, Woody was active in local politics as Judge of Election in Haverford Township's 8th ward. He could also be seen helping Rosie, his wife, at the Southwest Community Enrichment Center in Southwest Philadelphia. Woody marched to support farm workers, protested the Vietnam War and supported other causes for social justice. Throughout his retirement, Woody and Rosie enjoyed traveling, attending Philadelphia Orchestra concerts and operas, entertaining friends, and hosting holiday celebrations and family gatherings. In addition to being a respected Electrical Engineer (P.E.), he will be remembered for his devotion to family, his friendly and outgoing nature, and his unwavering respect for all people. Woody will be dearly missed by Rosie, his wife of 65 years, and children Mark (Sue), Clare (Adrian), Anne (Paul), Paul (Helen), John (Tricia), Rebecca (Ulf), 18 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law. There will be a Mass with reception to celebrate Woody's life at St. Malachy church, 1429 N. 11th St., Philadelphia on Saturday, November 11, 2023 at 11:00 A.M. followed by an open house at Woody's home from 4:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, Woody would appreciate donations to St. Malachy church, 1429 N. 11th St., Philadelphia, PA 19122 or to a charity of choice.
