Louis Bakis Obituary

Louis J. Bakis, 93
1931 - 2024
Danvers - Louis J. Bakis, 93, of Danvers, passed away on December 10, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was the devoted husband of the late Doris (Clemens) Bakis.
Born in Lynn on October 20, 1931, he was the son of the late John and Christina (Karavoulous) Bakis. Lou was raised and educated in Lynn and graduated from Lynn English in 1950. He was a gifted athlete and was named All-Star in football and baseball. Lou also served our country with the United States Navy during the Korean War and was honorably discharged.
Lou attended the Mass School for Electronics and Wentworth Institute of Technology. He had a long career with General Electric and then Ametek Corp, working as an Electronic Specialist in their Aerospace Division. Lou was honored for outstanding performance on the special project of the B1 Bomber.
Lou remained active in his later years. He was an avid golfer and played in a golf league in Boxford for many years. He enjoyed tennis and running as well. Lou also worked with Lyons Funeral Home upon retirement for several years, where his kind and helpful hand was always appreciated.
Lou was a quiet man with a true sense of family dedication and loved his family more than anything else. Even when he worked overtime, he never missed his children's and grandchildren's activities. He was always there to teach us how to swing a bat, catch a fly ball, hit a slice serve, or kick a soccer ball. He built us tree forts and go carts, conducted mock fire drills at the house so we would always be prepared and safe, and had a wicked sense of humor.
He will be greatly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. He always had a great smile for everyone he knew and even those he had just met.
Lou's family would like to extend a special thank you to the compassionate staff at Putnam Farm and to Care Dimensions for their exceptional care and support.
He is survived by his children, Sharon Thurston and her husband Kevin of Danvers, Arlene Barbieri and her husband, John of Danvers, Kelly Bakis of Stratham, NH, John Bakis and his wife Karin of Yarmouthport and Maureen Bakis of Marblehead, his grandchildren, Erin Thurston and her husband Marc Moccia, Sean Thurston, Matthew Kreschollek, Jack Doyle, Shea Doyle and his wife Alisha, Regan Doyle and her fiancé Anthony Cordaba, Riley Doyle, Johnny and Alicia Bakis, Tara LaCross and her fiancé Gavin Murray, Kate LaCross, Jacquelyn and Cameron Barbieri and Samantha Hatziiannou and her husband Costa, his great grandchildren, Hayden, Taelyn and Matthew Kreschollek and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his siblings, Penelope Perakis, Helen Nardone, Georgia Pantinas, Arthur Bakis, Demetria Fiste.
Service Information: His Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Monday, December 16, 2024 in Saint Richard Church, 90 Forest St., Danvers. Visitation will be held from 2-5PM on Sunday, December 15, 2024 at C.R. Lyons & Sons, Funeral Directors, 28 Elm St., Danvers. Burial is private. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Lou's name to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA,01923. Online directions and condolences are available at www.lyonsfuneral.com

This was my uncle. And even though I only met him twice, I remember him as a very warm and caring person. I still remember meeting him back in 1967 during Christmas. He had a small movie recorder, and recorded our antics.... What a loss.....

I still remember the night my uncle Louie took me to my first Boston Celtics game at the old Boston Garden when I was just a little guy. They played the St. Louis Hawks! I still have this clear picture in my mind of that night, where we sat up in the rafters, the rowdiness of the crowd, throwing stuff at the Hawks as they came onto the court, and the heat in the Garden as the game progressed. But most of all I remember my uncle Louis explaining aspects of the game to me and cheering enthusiastically!
You are held close in my mind and warm and closer still in my heart.
Love and condolences to all my cousins and their families.

Louie and my dad (Bob Waitt) shared such a long life-time of shared memories, jokes, teasing!...and family times. They loved their high-school sports....Louie had such a nice quiet way about him and wonderful smile. My sympathy to the family and happy memories to live in your hearts forever. Warmly, Debbie

I was lucky enough to grow up across the street from the Bakis family. I have the best memories of sleepovers, playing in the pool in the backyard, playing Pong when they got an Atari, their dogs Muffin and Rocky, etc . . . Such a great family. Doris and Lou were such kind, welcoming people. My condolences to the whole family.
