Lucia Rangel passed away on Monday, October 30, 2023. A devoted wife and mother, and a strong woman of faith, she was an inspiration to all who knew her. Lucia was born July 6, 1928, in San Antonio, Texas, to Pedro De Leon and Crecencia Cruz. She was raised in the small town of Asherton, Texas, surrounded by a large, devoted family including 9 brothers and sisters. On July 24, 1948, she married Carlos (Charles) Rangel in Forsyth, Montana, where they bought a small ranch and began their family. Years later, they sold and settled in Calexico, CA, where they would raise their three daughters and a son. Lucia and Charles created a home that modeled the importance of family, love, and hard work. They both donated and devoted their time to others through work at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Calexico.

Lucia was involved in numerous activities at OLG that included First Holy Communion and Baptismal classes, leading women in weekly bible and prayer meetings, providing marriage counseling, organizing Mother Day fundraisers, and participating in Cursillos.

In 2004, Charles and Lucia moved to Hacienda Heights, CA, to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Charles passed away peacefully on August 26, 2015, at the age of 95 in his home, surrounded by his family.

Lucia is survived by three daughters, Maria (Rafael), Delia, and Yolanda (Bill); 6 grandchildren, Eric (Diana), Camille (Akshay), Enrique (Sara), Adrian, Andrew, and Jennifer; and 1 great-grandchild, Elijah. Her son, Charlie, passed away in January 2000.
