Dorethy McGrath Obituary

Dorethy Hughes McGrath, age 96, passed away on November 6, 2024. Dorethy was born in Utica, New York, graduated from Saint Aloysius Academy, Saint Dominic Academy, and Marymount College, Tarrytown, New York, received a master's degree in Special Education from Kean University. She taught for 30 years in special education in Jersey City.
Dorethy was a past president of the New Jersey Marymount Alumni Association, the College Club of Jersey City, the Odd Volumes, Jersey City Women's Club, and the Lincoln Association, a member of Skytop Club, New York Athletic Club. She was voted Teacher of the Year for Hudson County in 1989, parishioner of Saint Aloysius Church where she was a member of parish council and a Eucharistic minister.
She is predeceased by her husband, Richard McGrath. She is survived by her children, Anita Peterson and Richard McGrath, their spouses and her five grandchildren.
Funeral Mass at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rutherford, NJ on November 9,2024 at 10 AM. Entombment Holy Cross Mausoleum, North Arlington, NJ. Family & Friends will be received Saturday from 8:30-9:30AM at Macagna Diffily Onorato Funeral Home 41 Ames Ave Rutherford, NJ.
