Barry David Klein, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away on December 13, 2024, in Charleston, South Carolina. He was born on February 24, 1946, in New York, NY, to Joseph and Lilyan Klein, both of whom predeceased him.
Barry dedicated a significant portion of his life to service in the United States Air Force, a commitment that exemplified his strong sense of duty and patriotism. After his military service, he became a loyal member of Etiwan Lodge #95 in Mt. Pleasant, where he dedicated over 46 years, fostering friendships and community involvement that enriched the lives of those around him.
He was known for his engaging hobbies and interests, which included ham radio, collecting coins, and doing puzzles. These pursuits brought him joy and served as a way to connect with others, showing his inquisitive nature and love for challenge.
Barry is survived by his loving wife, Irene Cook Klein, who stood by his side throughout their journey together. He was a proud father to his son, Thomas W. Edwards III (Grace), and his two daughters, Karen Rhett (Robert) and Rae Klein Culnon (Ryan), they will fondly remember him as a guiding force in their lives. He cherished his grandchildren, Caroline Barnwell Rhett, Matthew David Culnon, and Madison Rylee Culnon, who brought him immense joy and pride. Additionally, Barry is survived by his niece, Bethany Schwartz Porrazzo, who held a special place in his heart.
A memorial service to honor Barry's life will be held on December 18, 2024, at J Henry Stuhr, Mount Pleasant, located at 1494 Mathis Ferry Road, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464. The service will be held at 12pm and the family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
He will be remembered as a dedicated family man, a man of principle, and a cherished member of his community who touched the lives of many. His legacy will continue through the memories and love shared by his family and friends. Memorials may be made to Etiwan Masonci Lodge #95.
