Robert "Bob" Dougherty Sr. Obituary


Robert "Bob" J. Dougherty Sr., 95, formerly of 810 Welsh Street, died Thursday (February 13, 2025) at the Lutheran Home at Kane.

He was born December 7, 1929, the son of the late Thomas M. and Pearl (Johnston) Dougherty.

Bob served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from March 1951 until February 1953.

On September 15, 1956, in Johnsonburg, he married Mildred (Midge) Nelson who proceeded him in death on January 18, 2010.
Bob attended Kane Area Schools and was employed at Stackpole Carbon for many years. After his retirement, he worked at the Kane Country Club. His woodworking was his passion and his workshop was his happy place. Many pieces of his work are displayed throughout the area.
Bob was a faithful member of Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church. He served as the secretary of the Sunday School for many years. He was also an usher and could be seen around the church doing any job that was asked of him. He belonged to the NCP Slovenian Polka Boosters for many year.

Bob is survived by one daughter, Bev (Rich) Danielson of Kane; and three sons, Robert "Bob" Dougherty, Jr. of Kane, Brian (Connie) Dougherty of Mt. Jewett, and Brett Dougherty of Massena, NY.

Also surviving are four granddaughters, Angela Dougherty, Brianna Hoover, Cassandra Dougherty and Seneca (Tom) Roux;and four grandsons, Stephen (Tiffany) Danielson, Christopher (Samantha) Danielson, Kiefer Johnson and Braden Dougherty. He was the proud great-grandfather to Jacob, Lexis, Carson, Westin, Deandra, Kerensa, Sydney, Nolan, Harper, Cooper and Josephine. He is also survived by a cousin, Nancy Johnston of Johnsonburg and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Bob was proceeded in death by six sisters, Katherine Nordhal, Winifred Smiley, Marie Swanson, Margaret Anderson, Mary"Lorrainne" Craig and Mary "Lenore" Dougherty; two brothers, John "Jack" Dougherty and a brother, Billie, in infancy; and a great-grandson, Benjamin Danielson.

A memorial service for Bob will be held 12:00 pm on Tuesday (February 18) at Tabor Evangelical Lutheran Church.
