Paul Genoway Obituary

The family of the late Paul Genoway wishes to announce his passing at his home on October 15, 2024, at the age of 87 years.
Paul Michael Genoway was born May 28, 1937, on the farm near Rama, SK.  He was one of 17 children born to Martin and Josephine (nee Wolkowsky) Genoway.
Paul got his education down the road at Dobrowody school.  After finishing school, he followed his brothers and sisters to Toronto, ON, where he worked for Canada Post.  At some point, he moved to Calgary, AB, and worked in construction. In 1973, he moved to the family farm and took over the operation of the farm from his brother, Leonard.  He has been on the farm ever since.
Paul loved farming.  He loved the connection with nature, especially the animals.  He always had cats and dogs, horses, and other cattle.  He raised rabbits for a time as well. He had a passion for music and loved to play guitar and sing!  He also enjoyed listening to country music, often playing records. He was an avid football fan. Go Riders! …unless they were losing…
He was a serious man, but he had a great sense of humor and a quick wit.  Even at 87 years old, he was still sharp and humorous.  He was often seen wearing a cowboy hat and when he dressed for an occasion, he was always shiny clean like a new penny!  
Paul was predeceased by his parents, Martin Genoway in 1964 and Josephine in 1987; brothers: Balthazar, John, Frank, Alphonse, Marion and Leonard; and sisters, Verna, Ellen, Mary, Elizabeth, Nellie, Clara, Francis, and Caroline.
He is survived by his sister, Bernadette Rutko; and his brother, Ray (Tom) Genoway; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family wishes to thank all those in the Rama community who were close to Uncle Paul, especially as he grew older and depended on friends and neighbors.
Uncle Paul, we all have our favorite “Uncle Paul” story.  In our memories you will live on forever! May you rest peacefully.
A Vigil of Prayer was held at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, October 29, 2024, and Funeral Mass at 10:30 am, Wednesday, October 30, 2024, with both services celebrated from St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Church, Rama, SK, with Rev. Fr. Andrzej Sowa, OMI, as celebrant. Rite of Committal followed at St. Anthony’s Roman Catholic Parish Cemetery, north of Rama, SK. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make expressions of sympathy may make donations to an animal charity or rescue of one’s choice, as tokens of remembrance, in memory of Paul Genoway.
