Florence M. Albertson, 94
Florence (Flory) M. Albertson, 94, passed away in Lakeview, Oregon, on Dec. 20, 2024. She was born in the family home on Westside on March 28, 1930, to John C. and Florence E. (Carey) Morris.
Flory was an all-around good hand even as a child, driving teams of horses at the age of 5 and milking cows by the age of 9. She rode a horse and sometimes a horse-drawn sled to attend Union Elementary School. She graduated from Lakeview High School in 1948. In 1951, Flory served as the Lake County Round-Up queen.
Flory married her childhood sweetheart, Jack P. Albertson, on March 30, 1953. After Jack's service in the Army at Fort Lewis, Wash., they raised their large family in the house that Jack built. Their lives were spent raising kids, fish, cattle and hay. Flory also enjoyed raising gardens, horses, chickens and pigs, and spending time at Yocum Valley.
Through the years she worked for Bennett's Marketeria, Favell-Utley Insurance, Union School and the Westside Store. She also worked for Surprise Valley Electrification Corp. for 23 years as a meter-reader. She was very reliable, traveling around to homes and irrigation pumps for a week out of every month and enjoyed taking time for a visit. She was a dedicated life member of Westside Grange.
Flory is survived by her children, Walter (Kris), Tom (Julie), Steve (Nancy), Joan (Bob), MaeNell (Vic), and Alan; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews; and Sandy Albertson. Flory was preceded in death by her husband Jack, parents and stepfather, Roy Roberts, and siblings Ruth, Alice, Johnnie, Mildred, Lee, Margie, Roy, Dola and Anita.
The family wishes to give special thanks to Jody Johnston and the crew at Mountain View Adult Foster Home.
Interment will be on Dec. 28, 2024, at 11 a.m. at the Westside Cemetery. A memorial service and luncheon will follow at noon at the Westside Grange Hall.
Contributions may be made in her memory to the Westside Grange, Westside Cemetery or a charity of their choice.
